I was thinking the same thing. Must be the shortage of estrogen on this site. :grinpimp: At least I know what to add in my title if I want my post viewed a lot. :D

Welcome to the board.
Pretty funny you have over 4000 views already.

I agree with you both and I think the word Girl in the title is what attracted the views…nothing to do with me. Hey it’s been great for my ego…I should have gotten a FJ40 years ago! ;) Seriously, thanks for the welcome! :D

Thanks Noah for offing help! I will try to make it to the Cruiser Club picnic in San Marcos this weekend so maybe I will see ya there or around SD.

Ha, I wonder if there will be 4000 cruiser members showing up there too. It's like nobody's ever seen a tan surfer girl before. Oh and welcome. Have you seen this ugly thing in your hood?

I am tearing down on Sunday, and it will be Green and pretty again. But it has looked like this for too many years. But the underside looks nice and it stops fastish. I too have almost smushed a few cars there at Taramar before i did my front disk brake conversion.

I’m sure I have seen you because we are in downtown C-bad all the time. Now that I have my Cruiser I am spotting other FJs more and more. There’s not many of us out there so I’m stoked to have met ya…see the Girl in the title helped. :) Anyways, good luck this Sunday and I hope to see you along 101.

yeah, defently the girl in the title, but have to get a jab in with these guys where I can, they are a sharp bunch.

I have seen only about 4-5 fj40s in the area, that are driven on a daily basis.

I have not found any good mechanics around here, so I do my own stuff, oh and I like to spend my money on parts, not work. I think there are a few good mechanics on this board in LA, that might be worth the trip if you get stuck on stuff.

Good luck and nice curiser. If I had to do over again I would start out with one with a good body and paint job as yours.

FJ40_73 I think if I had to do it all over I would become a mechanic. ;) I think it’s awesome that you know how to work on your FJ! I feel silly that I bought my Cruiser without checking into the upkeep first. I honestly never would have thought it would be so hard to find a good local mechanic. I’m pretty stubborn though so I will keep searching for one or just tow her to L.A. She is too special to just take to any Joe and I don’t want to have to pay for the work to be redone. This is when the Girl part is not so fun. :frown:

I am coming in late to this thread so pardon me if this question has already been asked.

Have you checked for any Toyota specific auto repair mechanics in the surrounding area?

such as --
Toyota-A Independent Truck & 4 Runner Specialty Center

I honestly think you should be able to find a decent mechanic closer than the LA area. The money and time spent hauling or driving your cruiser up there may not save you anything. I would prioritize your needs and do a little "mechanic shopping" ;).
You also might try searching a couple of other forums that are car related.
I also think that the Auto Club has a listing service of reputable mechanics if you are a member.

CruiserGirl,

Here are a couple more links to Toyota Specialist's that are closer than LA for you to consider.

BTW -I have used Inland Trucks for work on my Tundra and was impressed. I also use a local mechanic - Automotive Specialties here in Temecula for stuff I am not equipped to mess with. Last time I was in They had a FJ40 on the lift and were correcting some questionable work done by the PO.

Thanks for the info/help! The SD Cruiser Club picnic will actually be at San Marcos Pro Trucks this Saturday. I was planning on going so I could speak to them and the other Club members about maintenance and hoping to gain more knowledge and meet some Cruiser friends. I just called the # you gave me (why wait right) and the girl said to speak to Jim (owner) this Saturday and he will look at my FJ and be able to tell me if he can work on her. Crossing my fingers! Thanks again! :D Tammy

You are making my day! I just called and left a message at SD Trux. They are off Miramar so I will have to drive a little on the freeway but it’s better then the 100 miles I would have to drive to L.A. (again, she is not very freeway safe). Thanks for your mechanic info too! I will keep you posted on how it turns out. Very stoked! :D

Is this a Beach N Toy's Landcruiser club event?
I would cruise down to check it out, but am heading to the river for the weekend. Good luck

Guys,

She is not throwing in the towel. She has had an unfortunate situation come up that has forced her to make the tough decision to sell. I am sure if she could keep it she would. I too hope she finds a good home for her rig.
