HELLO GUYS,
I AM NEW TO MUD. GREAT SITE I HAVE BEEN SNOOPING FOR THE PAST YEAR. GREAT POSTS AND VERY INFORMATIVE. HOPE TO LEARN ALOT SINCE I AM A NEWBIE IN THE FJ 40 COMMUNITY. WILL 31 X 10.50 TIRES FIT IN A STOCK FJ 40 WITH NO LIFT? MY CONCERN IS THAT THEY MAY RUB. i JUST GOT MY FJ RUNNING AFTER TWO YEARS OF INACTIVITY DUE TO BRAKES AND STEERING LINKAGE. I PURCHASED IT THAT WAY. I WILL POST PICTURES AS SOON AS I CAN GET A CAMERA. ALL MY MONEY WENT INTO MY NEW HOME. I GOT GARAGE AND HOPE TO WORK ON THE FJ AT ONCE. THANKS

:flipoff2:welcome to mud if you haven't gotten the newbie salute yet!!

PS ALL CAPS MEANS YOU'RE YELLING. WE HAVE SOME OLDER GUYS ON THE FORUM BUT THEY AREN'T COMPLETELY BLIND/DEAF!!:hillbilly:

i'm pretty sure they should work without too much rubbing - don't know what kind of wheeling, if any, you'll be doing though

They will fit but, you will get some rubbing on the rear fenders and bend the fender a little. If you get in a bind. It did it to mine, with old worn out leaf springs and bad spring and hanger bushings. If you haven't already done it, I would replace the bushings and, you can put a shackle lift on it and that will help.
Good Luck

Mike

I've run this tire size and, yes, it will rub at full turn on the fronts. At full compression it will rub on the fender wells (how much depends on the width of the wheels you have them mounted on).

Mine rub on the driver-side TRE at full right turn. Otherwise, no problem. I do have extended shackles.

My experience has been that there are no clearance issues with 31x10.5's on stock wheels, with stock suspension.

The ONE exception is that at full left lock, with the right tire stuffed, it is possible to contact the center arm TRE. No biggy.

31s are ok IF the suspension is not flat. Dont worry about all caps this time. Keep asking questions, join a club and have fun. Mike
