Hey Everyone,

I'm interested in getting a GX, Living in NY, and need something a little robust.
I've gone to see a couple of examples..
Have a couple of questions if you would help a newb. The 4wd system only engages while in neutral gear? and also does 4 high always have to be engaged, and is Neutral in transfer case just for towing purposes?

I saw an example yesterday that was cosmetically a bit beaten, but not bad, and only 92k miles. Air ride works, drove well, has a little clanking kind of noise from the rear driver side, while sitting idle, any ideas? doesn't seem like it could be something terrible, maybe just something loose, but not sure.
It is a Nav unit, which not liking much, but could deal with that.
How much on average does it cost to do timing belt/water pump?

Thanks,
Joe

The 4wd system only engages while in neutral gear?
No. It's full time AWD, and you can lock the center differential and make it 4WD by pushing a button. You do not have to be in neutral.

and also does 4 high always have to be engaged
I don't understand the question. Can you rephrase?

and is Neutral in transfer case just for towing purposes?
Neutral in the transfer case is basically the position between high/low range. You won't use it for anything.

I want to say t-belt/water pump is around $1k at a shop..haven't had a shop do it though so I'm not 100%.

Full time 4WD with a center diff lock (CDL). So 4H no CDL = daily use on road. Shift to neutral at a stop...shift transfer to low = low range (offroad with diff action). Heavy offroad use = 4L and CDL. Not recommended to flat tow the 470, but tcase in N would be the only option if you did or you will destroy you tcase.

Clank could be the exhaust hitting something (hanger disconnected).

Nav is tricky to swap, but there are options now.

Labor for the 90k service is about $1000. $1600 with parts at Lexus, about $1400 if you source the parts.

Thank you guys. I'm going to pass on this one. Have come across one I'm pretty sure I'll be pulling trigger on tomorrow 03 with about 130k and every service up until 2 weeks ago at lexus & no nav :) timing belt done at about 100k so should be good for another 70k or so .
Body looks to be as good as the maintenance. Guy says nothing wrong with it or body.
Can't wait to see it.

Well here's my new to me GX, so in love. 03, no nav, every single service at lexus up until couple of months ago, 139k, super clean exterior, running beautifully, unbelievable how this feels like a new vehicle, purchased for $7900 :o
I got so incredibly lucky, I was so nervous that I got scammed & wouldn't be able to register, but did with no problem :D
Now to learn all about it; it does need new tires quickly.

Congrats & Welcome

Looks good, good find. I went and looked at an '07 yesterday but didn't get it. Needed about $1k worth of work and they wouldn't budge on the price.

Man that looks nice...dealer maintained is the best!! Jealous

Thanks guys, this thing had me at $7900
Coming from a 2dr 97 Rav4, stick shift, lifted slightly and all terrain tires; the GX definitely rides a bit nicer.
Hey Scat, as much as I love the rigs & modifying you guys do, pretty sure I'm going to stay all stock for a good while.
Just ordered highway all season tires
Good deal on select Kumho tires, $80 rebate. I ordered the crugen ht51, great reviews for quietness.

Question regarding oil changes. I've had good success with royal purple in the past. Would you guys recommend high mileage or regular based on 139k miles?

Any accidents? Truck seems like its in "too good to be true" shape for up state NY, $7900 @ 137K. Even with your 20 pixel photos the headlights/bumper covers look brand new.

Maybe I am just jealous, congrats though.

Trust me I was in disbelief until I registered, almost thought I was getting scammed lol.
No accidents at all on car fax, I got the truck from CT, even better Hartford, nice area.
