I had a similar problem as what I have read about on this forum with my '96 LX450. I had to start in Low, shift up to 2nd, then Drive. Code was P0753, Shift Solenoid.
Had all three replaced. Problem is now worse. My transmission guy recommended I just find a new transmission as I've already ran up a tab for him around $700. My mechanic says this transmission guy is really good on GM transmissions (could rebuild one in his sleep). I ask him if there was anything else I needed to get instead of the transmission (from a junkyard not far away). He said there are probably kits out there that would be good, but he wasn't all that familiar with a 30 year old Toyota's option.
I found online from Whatever it Takes an Overhaul Kit which they tell includes front seals, paper baskets and O rings.
If I am putting a new transmission in, is there other things I need to be thinking about that I should include? Transmissions are foreign to me.
