Hey everyone!

My name’s Ethan Wade, and I’m a student down at New Mexico Tech in Socorro. I’ve been looking around at various 4wd clubs around NM and thought this one seemed really neat, so I figured I’d introduce myself! I’ve been wheeling for only a few years now, so I’m still relatively new to the hobby as a whole. Most of the stuff I’ve done is in Moab and Colorado, so I don’t know much about good trails around the state (hence I wanted to find a good club in the hopes that some folks can show me what’s good around NM). My father and I have a Nissan Xterra that we wheel quite a bit, but I’ve recently gotten my first Toyota in the form of a 5th gen 4Runner that I’m eager to start taking around the trails. I’ve already done a lift kit on it, so now I’m looking into doing sliders, skids, bumpers, lockers, and so on. Hopefully I can get to meet y’all soon and go wheeling sometime! I’ll be keeping an eye out for when ya’lls next meeting is!

Here are some pics of that Xterra and 4Runner I mentioned. Don’t mind the IFS only getting mini-flex

Hello Ethan. Youre in the right place. This club is full of some good folks.

Welcome! Much love for the 4Runner. IFS will serve you well in most situations, and you get to ride in luxury!

Welcome to the club. There are a bunch of Toyota lovers and a few Techies here too. One of our club members has a son at Tech right now too. My biggest burning question is how a college student can afford a Gen 5 4Runner, mostly because I'm jealous and I can't afford one.

There’s some bueno wheeling in your backyard! Is there snow on north baldy yet?

@BigFishAllDay Maybe we can squeeze in a run before it it’s too slick?

Oh, and what are you studying at Tech? I know some people and I'm always looking to help out a fellow Techie, especially one that likes Toyotas.

Gordy's Hill, Water Canyon.....

I thought Tech had an off-road club too. Been out with them?

I haven't had a chance to get around that area in a while, but to my knowledge it should be pretty clear. That's always a great place to go to, a lot of my friends and I make frequent trips up there during the calm parts of the semester.

Yeah, I was actually the secretary of the club for a time, but lately they've been pretty inactive. There's been a few debacles with the Student Government and so on, so they tend to either be really active for one semester or totally inactive another.

I'm an electrical engineering major!

Believe me, this is like the very first thing I get asked when I tell folks I have a 5th gen. Truth be told it was handed down to me by my family since I was looking into getting a POS Jeep XJ since it was all I could afford, and my die-hard Toyota family couldn't let me do that. Definitely glad for that, don't know if I could actually have pulled off being a jeep guy tbh

Welcome! We look forward to meeting you in person.

Damn, sounds like an invasion of 4Runners as of late :flipoff2: Welcome to the group. We got a snow/xmas tree run coming up, maybe you can join us?

I'm a EE also, the BEST engineering field EVER ;)

Tr4.org has a thread in their fifth gen section on all Black Friday sales so you might want to check that out and maybe pickup a set of sliders at the very least.

Oh, brother. Although, when kids ask me what kind of engineer they should be, I usually tell them EE for the job opportunities, unless they're not smart enough to survive the academics. Then I advise them to become Mechanical (that's me) or Civil engineers.

Soon it will be nothing but engineers and 4Runners around here...they usually have an old LC around as well! :hmm:

Thanks for letting me know! I actually just found a pretty good deal on some sliders I had been looking at on that t4r.org page, so I'll be snagging those soon!

I'd definitely love to tag along for a tree run, but unfortunately I have finals coming up pretty soon that might rob me of time for the next few weeks. What day is it in particular? Maybe I could find some time to fit it in.

Hi everyone, I'm Ethan's dad. I've been a lurker on mud for several years but never been much of a contributor. Now that Ethan has his own rig and I've moved my focus to converting my old Tundra to a camping setup, I'd like to join you guys as well. I'm a bit introverted (another mechanical engineering guy) and Ethan is pretty good about getting me out of my shell.

Was just talking to my wife about the Christmas tree run and it sounds like she may be in as well. Hopefully Ethan doesn't have a final that falls on that Saturday. Looking forward to finally meeting some of you.
