New to towing - does an LX570 need a WD hitch (1 Viewer)

UPDATE: Took my shank to a machine shop and they drilled another hole through at about 2" closer to the ball than the original one. Had them reposition the ball to a downward slope of 10 degrees. Retightened the anti sway hex and the thumbscrew to lock in the new position. This has transformed the towing.
- No poirposing
- Very little sway
- Feels great on the road
I use the ECT power setting with AHC set to on and suspension in Sport mode. Keeps the rpms in a sweet spot. Only issue I see is the smallish fuel tank and the cost of 93 right now at roughly 8mpg while towing....

Including a new weight report after hitch reposition and trailer full of fresh water and gear.

Hope all of this info is helpful to the OP. Sorry to have hijacked the thread. Thanks to everyone!

Ouch. I haven't run 93 in two years (not trying to debate the merits of prem vs. reg). I feel ya on the 8 mpg and limited range. Especially when we're towing through the middle of nowhere NV, OR, or ID. Has me looking at the LRA tanks but dang, they're expensive.

Great to hear you got the rig dialed in to your satisfaction! Having also taken this journey, I'll acknowledge it can be daunting when new to the hobby. To learn what levers and knobs there are, which way to turn, and how to get things just right. Looks like you're there and thanks for sharing the feedback.

The MPGs can be a bit rough especially when trying to make time. I find that slowing down even 5 MPH can make quite a bit of difference. Then again, it is pulling more than 2x the weight so it's not unexpected.

It has me looking at long range tanks. I found these. They are certainly pricey and then you have to mount your spare elsewhere. I am thinking if I do this I'll mount my spare on the back of my travel trailer along with the spare it already has there. I might even put a Lexus wheel cover over it to confuse the RV folks.... I don't know... We'll be doing quite a bit of towing and really don't want the typical super duty truck as I don't have a need otherwise.

I'm going to have read some threads here about 87 in the LX570...

How is Blu Ox WDH? Still a good choice? I will be picking up a Airstream Basecamp 16x. 455 tongue weight.

Curt Echo trailer brake was recommended to me but all I ever see on 200 series sites is redarc.

2013 LX570

@poppe

The nice thing about redarc is how small the knob is for adjusting brake controller setting as well as using it and can fit into one of the factory slots around the steering wheel.

The curt echo looks to be a Bluetooth controller that you use on your phone? Personally wouldn't want to have to rely on the Bluetooth connection and phone not freezing/being on the app when you need to react to something and get on the trailer brakes

Oh yeah that makes sense. I never looked into the echo yet. Just saw it kept getting recommending by airstream group. Thanks!

And just for the record, there are a number of us using the Tekshona (sp?) P3 controller and I for one are very satisfied with it.

The Echo controller only uses bluetooth for setup and adjustments while in use. It's set and works when plugged in whether your phone is on or not.
