I have a 1996 land cruiser with 9 speakers, they are in bad shape and I need to replace them. Does anyone know what size fits? There at two in the dash, two on the front and back doors, two on the roof in the very back and a subwoofer on the back right panel. Thanks:)

Unless you use your third row, I wouldn’t worry about the tiny speakers in the cargo area. If they are bad, just rip them out and don’t replace them. Same for the front speakers at your knee.

The front door speakers can be replaced with 6.5 inch speakers after removing the door cards, which is pretty simple. You will retain the original factory grills.

The rear door speakers can be replaced with 6.5 inch speakers as well, but you will need to mount them directly to the outside without removing the door cards. You will not retain the factory grills, Unless you want to use smaller speakers.

Here is what I did

Bottom left are the speakers mounted in the front doors. Bottom right are the speakers mounted directly through the door card utilizing new grills, which I painted to match.

Also, my factory amp was blown, so I just removed it and everything is being powered by my new head unit. Plenty of power for me, but I’m not 17 years old anymore.

I also went with the pioneer 6.5's in all four doors. I just trashed the factory grills and drilled the speakers in each door with self tapping screws. Easy job.

I also put the TS-G1645R speakers in all four doors, but was able to retain the factory grills. It's been a while, but I think it was by modifying the plastic mounting thingy with a dremel tool to remove the center backing, which allowed the speaker to sit further back so the original grill would fit. If I recall correctly there's a thread on here somewhere where someone else did it, which gave me the idea. It's a bit of extra work, but worth it to me as I wanted to keep the original matching grills. Here's a couple pics of the end result.

BTW - I accidentally bought an extra set that I didn't use, so if you're interested in buying it I'm happy to sell for a 20 spot plus shipping. I did open the box and took one speaker out to use the magnet to try to 'fix' the IR sensor on a Foscam IP Camera (long story), but that's about it. Just ran the magnet over the camera then put it back in its box. PM me if interested and we'll work out the details.
