Thanks for the comments. Garage is nice. Done this sort of thing in a carport before.

Not too sure about the knowledge thing......this is my first Cruiser.

I did just finish this though and it is taking up the other space in the garage.

Nice EB,

I'd just call around to starter/alt rebuild places and ask them if they feel comfortable doing a generator.

very nice bronco too. I bought one I found in a barn for a project but I sold it when I moved here. wish I still had the ole girl, but I dount I would have bought my 40....very nice though.

Not much to report other than scouring for parts and cleaning up alot of the small ones. I spend most of my time cataloging what goes where and keeping track of things.

Got an early oil filter assembly and cleaned that up for install later. Also finished up the generator. No one answered my other thread on the actual color so I spent quite a while researching it and settled on the color it is now.

Also have 78 FJ40 axles that I am debating whether or not to put them in instead of the stock ones. If I have alot of trouble finding parts to R&R to stock ones, then I may swap them out. Really want to keep in bone stock though.

A little more work done this weekend. I had to wrap up and pack away the parts I already cleaned and restored to make room.

I then went to work on parts of the vacuum transfercase shift. Pretty dirty when i pulled it off and covered with what looked like sound deadener.

Parts all cleaned up. Hardest part was the cable.

I want to go thru this slowly and as I pull the parts off, clean them up, fix what is broken and pack away for reinstall later. That way when it finally is time to put this back together, everything is clean.

:D Cool, that brings back some memories, haven't seen the guts of one those in about twenty years. :D

Mostly just cleaning and painting parts as I remove them. Alot of rust removal and just learning WHAT parts are supposed to be on mine.

Seems as though I have a bit of a crossover year for the 25/40.

Found out today that I might need a FJ25 fuel filler tube instead of an early 40. (see the thread in the FJ25 section)

Also doing some work on the steering column, instrument cluster (odometer is falling apart - see thread on that).

I got one of the little handheld sandblasters and I am using ti on the small parts. Works good for the compressor size I have.

I now have three piles of parts (not including the tub/frame/engine/axle sections:

- parts to go to the cad plater (or yellow chromate)
- larger parts to go to the sandblaster (seat frames, radiator mount, bigger brackets, etc)

I will post up some more pics on Monday when I have everything straightened out.

Got some updates and I will attempt to put them in some type of order.

Sent a box of parts to the plater and finally got them back. Took about a week. Dropped off Monday morning and got the call this morning that they were ready. Most of the parts came back looking great (headlight buckets look better than new) while 2-3 parts may need to be cleaned up a little better and replated. Shop won't charge me for the redo's.

I am about finished pulling all the little things off the body. As I mentioned before, I am cleaning and resto the parts as I take them off and then boxing them up.

Steering wheel. i used epoxy to fill the cracks and then sanded down with 120, then 320, then 600, then 1000 and painted with a plastic specific paint.

Obtained and cleaned up the stock glass bowl fuel filter (I know, I need a new filter element).

Sanblasted the intake/exhaust manifolds, and thermostat housing and used high temp manifold gray.

Finally, went after the stock voltage regulator. Internally, it looks brand new and I plan to keep it (no long available thru Toyota or $OR). I was going to repaint it but just cleaned it up so that I would not lose the stock markings on it.

Completely redid the parking brake handle assembly.

What is not shown but completed:

- Steering column and column shift linkage
- Steering box, pitman arm
- Vacuum shift linkage and tubes
- Restored stock radiator. used Eastwood radiator paint - turned out real well
- Restored all the switch knobs

Current at blaster:

- Front seat frames
- Radiator support brackets
- Steering box shield
- Clutch/Brake pedals, suppor brackets
- Tool box lid
- bunch of smaller parts.

So with this all done, I am going to get started on the bodywork. Then maybe lay out the wiring and go thru that piece by piece.

I also was able to fix the odometer. Mine had the numerals all trashed. Got a later model speedo head from another member and transferred the odometer on to my stock speedo. It was fairly straight forward with only a little tweaking of one of the parts. Funny, the only real difference between the later speedo head and the early one is that the early one had all the gears made of brass while the later one is plastic.
