Nice 42 ,canadian spec , i have an 84 , is this an aqualu body tub, more detail ?
How can you determine it's a BJ42 and not a BJ40?

Fenders looked wider than OEM. The fuel fill is 4/79+ but the A pillar is 78 or older. The rear wheel opening do not appear to have the flange which most.likely indicates an aluminum 3/4 tub. It also looks to have an auxiliary fuel tank and with exhaust coming out the passenger side. Where is the fuel fill, behind the share tire?

Looks very well built. Aluminum is a good choice for the Northeast. I prefer steel but I live in an oven, I meant desert.

It could be a 79 or 80 bj40 , 42 was just a guess ,maybe because of the username , i think the A pillar is 79+ that was cut flush when they swap the tub, you can see a patch under the kick vent .

Also , the rear shackle are upside down 😉

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. I got really sick, but all better now. Yes, this is a 42 (per engine, registration, etc), but totally rebuilt. I like the Frankenstein reference. Aluminum tub (which you can see the seam issue), an FJ40 frame (original rusted out), and many more parts that are not OEM bolted on. It is by no means a show car and not original! The original owner was in MA and had various specialy shops work on it...including one in CO and one in MA, but also did a lot of DIY. It runs great, fun to drive (I added electronic PS), but has gremlins LOL! Also, the frame is bent which gives it an adorable "lean". Yes, the color is orig spec for an 82 BJ 42. It was originally a canadian import. Funny story. This is actually my wife's car. She is obsessed with FJs and lost her other one in her divorce (nasty battle)...so she is pretty attached. She could care less where the parts came from. About 350kms and a very well used truck. The previous owner used it for beach driving in MA and a lot of shore fishing. Besides the shackle issue (recently worked on) if you notice anything else, speak up. I have the rig in Florida (long story) but live in upstate NY. Need to get it back home :)
