Fabulous product, thanks George.

Fabulous product, thanks George.

Hi Cary,
glad you like my dome modules. It's nice when something just works as well or better than claimed :)

cheers,
george.

Just finished installing them and they are awesome. Very bright in daylight. Can't wait to see how bright they are at night.

 great job on these George.

Here are some photos. I'm not a professional, but hopefully you guys will be able to see how bright these things are.

And some more.

It really is much brighter than the maplight.

I have ideas for you on new future products that you could develop, did some googling around and you could make these for a number of applications. You obviosly have the skills. What kind of soldering station do you use? I love this kind of stuff!!!

Yep, there would be a lot of other vehicles that these could fit. I guess I'm just overwhelmed with the other aspects of the LED electronics that I do. LEDs are "the" lighting solution of the near future.

I use a Metcal (now owned by OKI) soldering station - it is rather pricey... A hot air tool and solder paste is used to 'solder' the Rebel to the board (since it has no leads).

And, to the folk that have bought my modules (before & now), thanks for the positive comments/reviews I keep seeing. I've very glad that you folk like the results of my design/product.

The new design is so much easier to assemble than the original design that it is 'nearly' fun to make these.

cheers,
george.

After the news of my purchasing a new tent this weekend blows over with the wife, I'll be ordering two of your new lights.....It might be a few days:(

I was thinking the other day and that usually gets me in trouble. Could one with some soldering skills wire your new dome light into a socket style part for a map light? Seems like it would be doable.

Since you don't do door lights anymore, is there any commercially available LED alternative you would recomend. Treeroot had a ton of lights in his 80's writeup using superbrightleds.com- Super Bright LEDs - Miniature Wedge Base Bulbs. Hating electricity like I do, I defer all electrical type purchases to smart people like yourself. Thanks George.

Yes, it is an unfortunate downside to having a wife monitoring purchases :(

One could solder some leads to the bayonet fitting and then to one of my LED dome modules and then somehow mount it in place. Might be easier to look for one of those superbrightled square/rectangular arrays with various bulb 'adapters'.

For the doors you can go to superbrightleds and what you want are the 194 wedge LED units.

Super Bright LEDs - Miniature Wedge Base Bulbs

and their WLED-x6 in the colour of your choice. They are a direct plug and plug - perfect fit for the 80's doors.

Right on George, You definitely know what your doing. Flow that paste!!! I am also familiar with surface mount technology (SMT's) devices. II was just dreaming up a new idea for a 3rd brake light LED for my truck and thought about this thread. Good luck in your projects, hope to see more cool stuff for sale by you so I can pick something up. I already have the LED map and domes throughout made by Raybrig here in Japan (pricey).

Take care,

Chris

Got mine today too and wasn't expecting the size difference as well. You can tell the newer ones are slightly brighter though.:)

And... I just found out why these new domes are so much brighter. I had ordered 70lm/watt LEDs (250 of them), the distributor shipped me a reel of 100lm/watt instead. I'm guessing they messed up since there is quite a difference in price between the two.

Anyhow, folk that order dome modules (until this reel of 250 is done) will score some premium LEDs. The older domes used 40lm/watt (typ) LEDs, so that's why these appear brighter...

cheers,
george.

Icing on the proverbial cake. :D

I got mine in, and it is definitely brighter than the old Seoul Star LED version that I had in the front.

So, the old went to the back, and the new brighter LED went to the front;)

Outstanding work, and now I just have to find the map light LED replacement (hint, hint:grinpimp:) George, you are a true master of your craft

Has anyone tried these in a sequioa? My sister in law has a 2005 and would like to have some brighter lights after she saw my older LED's from George

Got mine George, they made the trip. Didn't know what to expect, they are smaller that I expected, that LED is real tiny yet WOW that's a lot of lite output... Impressive

I can see why having one in the map light would inhibit driving, too intense in brightness.

Ingenious product you've made

thanks:beer:

No idea, you would need to pop the plastic covers off to see what type of bulb is used in the redwood :)

cheers,
george.

These work in the 100 series. And you can use a pile of them too, if you wanted. I've got them in both the center and cargo domes. The map lights in the center take the same bulb. So there's 4. I didn't pop the cover off the lights above the mirror to check them.

Excellent! Thanks for the info. One favour - as if you didn't know it was coming... can you check whether they would fit in the lights above the mirror when you get a chance. Then I can tell folk whether they fit there or not.

cheers,
george.
