Been tempted to try this myself, but haven't pulled the trigger. My leather is in pretty good shape after 15 years (8 wheeling)

After checking on 80s forum, it looks like the quality is good.

The only issue seams to be the grain of the leather has a texture like a football, while OEM seats are smooth like a baseball.

my service advisor at Earnhardt Lexus referred me to a local shop where the color and grain matching supposedly is excellent, using stronger leather - price would likely be somewhat higher, but I don't know yet by how much

Lseat leather is pigskin , reason for the grain difference.

If you look into this further I would be grateful for any details you might share.

I believe my GX is the same year and color as yours.

Any updates on seat cover replacements?

the Lseats are reasonably priced at $300 for a complete front set.

ebay has a few companies selling leather seat covers. Just the bottom seat covers for the front are $300.

I installed the L-seat covers a few months ago and couldn't be happier with the results. This was the first time I've done upholstery work so I took a long time on the first one, the second one went way faster with better results. At some point this winter I'll redo the seat bottom on the first one. Hog rings & hog ring pliers are a MUST and having a few zip ties on hand will help.
Yes there is a difference in the leather grain but I like it and hardly even notice it now. I would absolutely recommend these covers.

Can you post pictures of your seats to maybe see the color contrast with the rear seats?

did you have to make any modifications to the pigskin seat covers to fit?

and did you recondition the foam padding to fit snuggly?

and do you smell like bacon on hot days? Lol, JK

I'll try to get pics in the next 2-3 days for you. The colour is VERY close, in the time that they have been on no one has said anything not even my wife!

No modifications required, but if you've never done upholstery work before you'll probably be scratching your head a few times trying to figure it out. The only thing I had to do was cut holes in the sides for the armrests to attach to & holes on the tops for the headrest posts. This was a little never racking but actually very easy & looks great.

I did add thin pieces (1/2" maybe) of foam to each side of the drivers side lower & to the centre. My seat foam was in pretty good shape, adding the foam pieces just helped to add a bit of support & fill out the seat bottom. I did the passenger side first & did not add any foam, I'll be redoing that one. I didn't need much foam and wanted it to be firm, I tried a few things then ended up using a piece of foam flooring, the kind people use in basements, garages, workout rooms etc... Some spray glue helps hold the foam pieces into place & also to hold the seat heating elements in place.

No bacon smell to report.

Thinking of going this route...would love to see pictures if possible.
