Hey All. Figured it's high time I posted up a couple pics of my cruiser and introduced myself. I have been lurking around mud for a while, not saying much but reading a lot. I can tell you that I have been amazed and inspired by some of the builds and a bit overwhelmed by the wealth of knowledge being shared here.

I own a '68 FJ40 that I have had for several months. It's really in need of some TLC but lack of time and money have kept me from delving into it. Previous owner did a V8 conversion and it runs pretty decent (of course it doesn't go to good on the flat tire ). Unfortunately that's about the only nice thing I can say about the PO's work on the old rig and much of what he did will have to undone (Check out the rattle-can camo paint!). I am by no means an ace mechanic, in fact I am down right lousy, but I figure if I am thoughtful and take my time I can restore her to a much finer state.

That's it for now. Look forward to any advice you guys may wish to give and I hope you all don't mind a few stupid questions from time to time.

Ed

P.S. First time posting pics....hope they come out ok.

Welcome to Mud, You've got a nice foundation to start from, reminds me of when i got mine, keep us posted..............Jerome

A potential winner! Lotsa lights. Split hood, Warn 8274, not too much rust! Nice truck. Welcome:flipoff2:The paint is an easy fix, make it a solid color, and you'll be amazed at how good it will look. :cheers:Ned

This could be a stupid question:

What the heck is that orange lookin horn thing in the right hand side of the engine bay?

Welcone to Mud keep us posted on your project.

Looks a lot like my bro-in-law's 69', except his is painted urban camo.

What's in store for your FJ40?

:)

Thats air baby....And I have to believe it sounds better than the VW Beetle horn I have on mine......

tell us you didn't put a VW horn on yer 65!!!! -)

Great rig...welcome!

Nice.

You’ve got a lot of work ahead of you. Once you dig into the truck your mechanic skills will improve drastically. It's like being a latch key kid (in the 80s) learning to program the VCR...you play with it without reading the instructions--learn it and it becomes second nature.

You'll get bloody knuckles along the way, and you’ll be stumped, but Mud will be here to help.

Congrats and good luck. It’s a long and expensive endeavor, but well worth it in the long run. There's something about restoration, mod or otherwise that brings a sense of accomplishment and happiness that only the owner of the vehicle can relate too.

Welcome to the sickness, and don't listen to the others about what color to paint it. The only color is Green .. ;)

Say goodbye to the rest of your life ...

cool so what do you have planned?

your bezel is broken upside down...:flipoff2:

looks like a good project, keep us posted

EDIT:welcome to MUD!!

"cool so what do you have planned?"

My aim is to return the cruiser to a mostly stock look with some upgrades to make it more comfortable to drive. I'm looking for a decent wheeling rig that can also be used as a Daily Driver.

The V8 is mated to the original 3 spd tranny - not real highway friendly. I'd like to swap it for something else...the NV4500 looks like a good option but major $$$. Maybe a SM465 - I'd like to stay manual. Also considering doing a TBI conversion on the chevy 350.

Disc brakes up front for sure. It's got power steering that the PO stole off a Monte Carlo. It's kinda cobbled together so I want to work on it - definately replace the Monte Carlo steering column with a stock column or a nice aftermarket one.

I am sure there will be many other mods/upgrades as I go forward. Paint and body work are at the top of the list. I welcome input and ideas and plan to post here a lot as I go.

That cruiser has class, we have the same horn !! Looks like a great start , enjoy it!!
