We did this project with a very low budjet. The tubing bender, welder and die grinder-cut-off-wheel, were less than $700.00 total. We also have a Ryobi $120.00 drill press that barely works. Would have been a lot easier project with a good quality drill press, a band saw and good tig welder, but these are the kind of low budjet tools I used when I was a kid, so Shane learned to cope with what he had. L.B.

That's a good lesson for him and it should help make him a better man! We need a good generation to rise up, way to do a good job to both of you!!!

Sent from deep in the mountains of Honduras using only sticks and rocks.

A $200.00 lincoln stick welder and a $300.00 Affordable Tubing Bender. All cuts were made with a 3.5 inch cuttoff wheel, holes were drilled with a $99.00 Ryobi drill press. This is a very low budget project. I'ts not ment to be a professional rock buggy, just an exersise in vehicle modification! Shane learned a lot on this project and has a few more skills to add to his toolbox, L.B.

We just had a successful trip on the Rubicon Trail. The project is finished for the most part. Some of the future plans are to straighten and reinforce the rear lower control arms (bent on Rubicon), lower the gear ratio and replace the front track bar bushing. But for now......Salmon fishing! L.B.

It's been about 11 months since we bought this fj80. Some of the things that we did that were not in previous posts;
Rebuilt maf $250.00
New battery $100.00
basket for roof rack $100.00

All new rotors, pads, custom brake lines, removed porportioning valve hardware, moved front panhard bracket, new bushings, tube door round bar, viar cmpressor, steering cooler,changed spare mounting bracket, fuse boxes, rock lights...Total $1275.00

Shanes' auto shop teacher removed the stripped rear actuator bolt, so now we can remove the rear actuator and repair it this winter. :) L.B.

Yeah, we have made some progress. We changed spare tire mount, green strip led's for side rock lights and spots for front and rear rock lights, custom second battery box (removed cruise control), armor on front diff, extended rear bump stops, added rear limit straps, changed cat skid plate to 1/2". I will try to post pics, but weather has been inclimate. ;)

This is the second battery box, fuse box for amp, lights, lockers, the limit straps, extended bump stops, the exhaust routed over the frame, the 1/2" cat skid, green led rock lights along frame.

It all looks great! Is there a reason for green vs white rock lights?

Well we have another winter of building under our belt. Recently added new tsl 38.5 super swampers. Cut off our specially made rear end and decided to go the tubing direction. We think its wild looking but still miss the old rear end. Tell us what you think.
