:D

I dont have the dimensions but I do have this crappy blueprint. Chain driven timing gear:D Wonder if its an interference engine?
The pump sits in between the V where it say supply pump gear.(I assume the supply pump is a injector pump)
We all need to start calling it by its proper name ,the 1VD-FTV :grinpimp:

Yes, right here:D Notice the weight ,it is a fair bit more than the 6 cyl. I read the other day it will be available in the US fitted in Tacoma's
1VD-FTV (Medium).webp

i don't accept those numbers .. 151 KW .. ridiculos .. !

There is talk that the Tacoma will get a 195 kw version for the US and the 200 series in october(aust) will have the twin turbo.
I imagine this engine will have much more potential and the 151kw version is just the opening shot;)

I got a magazine yesterday that is talking about an 8 speed auto:eek:
Maybe its a misprint and they meant the 6 speed aisan tiptronic which was mentioned last year

I havent heard anything about the manual trans yet. I imaginethey will use the H151 that was behind the 1HD FTE as they were about the same in HP

Don't worry Tapage - a very seasoned diesel mechanic once told me that it was very easy to tell the good diesel engines from the bad

- the good ones have all their cylinders in a straight line.

- the bad ones don't :D

I believe the new Lexus LS has an 8 speed Aisin tranny, so anything is possible, I guess.;)

Hi Guys, Welby here new member to the ranks. Have been following the discussion with lots of interest. Thanks to those who posted photos, they look really good. I had traded my old 91 1HZ ute in for a tubo 79 series, when the local dealer advised the new model was coming. This was of course after I had ordered the 79. Luckily they gave me the choice so am now anxiously waiting for the V8. Have been without a truck since October so its not easy having to wait. I reckon Mr Toyota has a pretty capable unit with the old 1HZ, especially in the Ute. If the V8 is only as good it will do me. With max torque at 1200rpm, with the curve staying flat across the rev range it has to be good surely. Look forward to further discussion.

New to this

Hi guys, 1st time here tonight, so thanks to all who have provided all the interesting info that I have read. Was the proud owner of a 91 1HZ Ute traded in October on a new 79 turbo model, which has now been replaced by the 70 series V8. (When it arrives!!)
Live in NZ, have been lucky to have the 1HZ for 5 years, and found it to be a really great truck, and would not any other than a 70 series.
Up untill a couple of years ago, a good reasonably priced 70 series Ute was hard to find ( it took me 6 years to find the one I had) but now the price has dropped a bit, and they are more common. Can only be a good thing. Look forward to plenty of disscusion, and more pics of the V8s

.

Welcome Welby I guess your in oz somewhere;) IMO you should have taken the turbo 79 series and wait till the V8 is proven a winner.
Still ,I and a most of the others will be a little jealous of you.
I hope you can give us lots of close up pics when it arrives.
Do you mine telling us the price the dealer has offered you?

Hi Roscoe, No not in Oz, although it is an Island close by. I am in New Zealand, South Island up the top in town called Blenheim.
Thought long and hard about which model. I have a mate with the turbo, and it is a great truck, just that extra torque and power and it rides a bit better as well. Still no complaints about the one I had, it was very good to me. Here it is on our way back from one of our high country excursions

I'm still awaiting for test on the diferent mags around the world .. you know the first V8 Twin Turbo Diesel by Toyota .. it's a big issue and we are here !

Youre right it is a big issue, to us anyway. The local Toyota agent ain't making to much fuss. According to the specs I have its essentialy the same truck as the HJTM Turbo 79 series. Just different from the A pillars forward. Even then there is little difference the track at the front is about 5mm wider. Turning circle is worse (groan). New truck (VJTN) is a5kg lighter oveall. Chassis measurements are almost identical. Leaf springs o the rear coils and solid axle up front. Drums on the back, which makes sense here. The 79 series with discs on the back suffered hugely in the wet sloppy stuff. The Handbrake fulled up with mud and could not be dried out. The 78 series with the high country pack here had discs onthe back also. The basic package had drums as did my old HJ75. it went all the same places as my mates 78 & 79, and the drums were great, along with the handbrake.
But it must be sweet, all that torque!!! I cannot imagine Mr Toyota mucking it up. The old HJ75 was such a good package, and so popular world wide he would need to be sure the new one is better. Especially when they are going to put the same engine ( 1 more turbo) in the new 200 series, the VX again is so popular world wide they woiuld not want to do anything that would damage its reputation. They would want to make it better. Marketing and branding is so hard now, and Mr Toyota has a done such a good job with the Hilux and 70 series etc they would be pretty carefull. Well I a hoping anyway!!
