On the way back from GSMTR I noticed my dash wasn’t showing what gear I was in. Put the tester on it and it came up with a sensor error. I was able to get a new sensor but the install is not as strait forward as it looks. The exhaust is in the way and of course everything has some rust on it. Is there a trick to getting the shifter linkage off the shaft that passes through the sensor. It looks like it should just slide off. I sprayed it down with PB blaster and I’m letting it sit a day or two. It’s amazing how much that sensor effects. No shifting to 4 lo, no reverse lights, no cruise, no auto door locks and no back up camera.

Not sure about tricks to get it apart but this is what the FSM says to do:

Ok. It was a PITA. Because everything was seized up but we finally managed to get the old sensor off and the new one on. Reset the error codes and they haven’t come back on. Problem is I still don’t have a display on the dash showing what gear I’m in, no 4 lo, no auto door locks, no revers lights. When I looked up the error code everything showed this sensor. Anybody have any ideas?

Attached is the section of the repair manual for troubleshooting P0705.

Assuming you aligned the switch correctly when installing the new one, I would break out a multi-meter and run through the resistance and voltage tests

Next step is to try to adjust it. We’ll have to figure out something to be able to confirm the notch lines up with the line on the sensor. Maybe a mirror or something. You can’t see the damn thing because it ticks up over the flange on the transmission and the exhaust is in the way. If that doesn’t work I’ll pony up and have the dealer look at it when I take it in for the seat belt recall. Thanks for the info!

You can buy inexpensive bore scopes that plug into a laptop that may be useful for this. I got mine on Amazon.

@scott johnson how did you come out on this? Did you adjust it and get your dash and other things working properly? I had the same code pop up tonight. Thankfully the part isn't much money, but I'd love to know that it will likely fix it. A bad fuse was found in a similar circumstance over in the 100 section.

Got it working. Make sure to check your reverse light fuse. 10 amp under the dash. If it blows it throws the same code and the lights don’t come on, backup camera doesn’t come up and the gear indicator on the dash shows a blank screen.

Great information @scott johnson ! Thank you. I will look at that too since I was in reverse when it happened and I have some super bright LED reverse lights installed also.

EDIT: Yep, that’s all it was. 10a reverse light fuse, cleared the code and good to go 👌🏼 I was afraid I had overlooked a tight cable and stretched it too much with the body lift, but the little fuse fixed it. Now to see how long the new fuse lasts with these LED reverse lights.
