Hi All,

I am working on a 2004 Land Cruiser with 224k miles. I purchased it with the following problems:

1. Rear Seat Audio, RSA doesn't work
2. DVD Changer doesn't work

However,
3. The Navigation system works and was able to eject the DVD.
4. The back camera works.
5. The radio works.
6. The overhead second seat DVD player works as well.
7. The climate control and trip info do work.

I did some inspections to the DVD changer and found few coins that may have shorted the motherboard, so I purchased a working DVD changer and installed it. Now, the DVD changer ejects the magazine but as soon as I hit Disc button, "the screen prompts with the following message "The external system is not connected" also provided in the picture below;

I also purchased a working RSA, and it is not working either. I disconnected the battery for 12 hours but again the RSA doesn't work same with the DVD changer, "The external system is not connected". I removed the overhead DVD player and the issue is still present. I am not quit sure what other sanity checks should be done. Anyone in here had similar issue could provide some insight. I noticed when I removed the battery for 12 hours, the configuration on my Navigation was not removed. I have seen in this post System Check Mode that it is possible to test/diagnose all of the units e.g. RSA etc by entering the "System Check Mode", is there any way to get to the "system check mode" like in the picture below;

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

To get into the MFD diagnostic mode, with the ignition switch on, press and hold the “Display” button by the navigation screen, and turn the headlights off and on 3-4 times.

Do you really need to start a second thread on this subject?

MFD diagnostic mode
Hi jLB, I think you mean to hold the info instead of the Display. I just found another post where it's been explained check this MDF. Thanks for the help. The reason of opening a new post I felt that the previous one has been ignored.

Thanks

Yep, it is “Info”. I was thinking one thing, and typed another.

Generally it’s better to keep the problem, troubleshooting, and resolution, all in one thread, as it makes it easier for others that may have similar problems to find.

Yes, Sir. Sorry about rushing and opening another one! Thanks again!

Got some time to work on my Land Cruiser today but no luck so far. I tried the System Check Mode and got the following;

So, the RSA using seems to be not connected or at least the MFD is not seeing it. I tried to remove the all codes by holding the Code CLR then pressed hold on the info button and switching on and off using the headlight button to see what are the possible diagnoses like below;

In the service check memory, it is stating that the RSA was ok so I cleared the codes and memory as well. Now when I went back to the System Check Mode, I got the following;

The RSA isn't on the list no more. What could be the possible issue here? The DVD changer still ejects but again when I hit the Disc button it's prompting with "The external system is not connected", Is the MFD need to be reprogrammed or is there a wiring issue or a faulty MFD? This is harder then what I thought. Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm talking about those "turn lights on/lock door" style actions to say change door lock behavior.

There has to be a master list...no?
Why don't you post your question in another thread. Your question isn't clear and irrelevant to this post.
