I have never seen an h55f top cover for a '40. The only one was the bj42lx. They're probably almost all still on the road. I looked around pretty seriously before I built my current setup. You will find me begging in various Japanese and Aussie forums with no luck.

You just need to move the shifter rearwards. If you can do the machining, you can probably figure it out from the fj60 top cover. You need to move the shifter rearwards 4-6"

There are pics of the different top plates in the FAQ; thread has to do with the install of an H55 into a 40 series...

Found what I needed. It would be lots of machining work, and I'm not sure that is the first thing I should tackle on the truck.

Instead, I guess I'll just follow the flock like the other sheep and cut some sheet steel.

Best,

T

years ago when I was taking to Marv, I happen to ask if he came across one to let me know, he said they are like hens teeth, but he was headed to look at a bunch of cruiser parts overseas'

got a call a few months latter that he found one for me

I dont know why I am holding on to it, pretty sure I will never put a H55 in my 82 FJ40....but who knows I might get a hair up my ass someday

if I recall it was not really all that much $

Good god. Where did you find that? How many pay checks did it cost you?

I was wondering how long it was going to take before you posted a picture. I know of another mudder with one. I would like to put a H55F in my FJ45 but won't do it unless I can find one of these. Just something about a OEM mat with the shifter in the wrong spot.

So where were these used? Did the BJ42 with the short four cylinder use these? I know a few LXs made it to Australia with a five speed but all those were BJs. All the FJ/HJ seem to have a H41 in OZ. Where else in the worl might have gotten these? Saudi Arabia?

BINGO, you got me remembering and your right, it was Saudi Arabia....the trip was documented at SOR at one point. Marv said it was kinda hairy some of the places he ended up.

yeah so I dont think there are allot around.
