My brother just bought a LC 100 2000.

Here is our game plan; all three will be done at once.

1. Slee Deluxe 2 " lift - not sure if we should go medium or heavy, he will be adding sliders with lift. However the front and rear bumpers will come later, most likely in a year or less. He uses this as his daily drive here in So Cal, so it needs to have a good ride. Can he live with the heavies for a year or will the ride suck that bad?

2. Slee Slidersteps.

3. BFG AT's 295-75-16, maybe the Toyo MT’s but the on road noise could be the limiting factor.

What do you think about this plan of action? Your impute from experience is appreciated, thanks Tare.

1. I dunno, I have neither.

2. Yes, Slee's build quality is excellent. Recommended.

3. IMO, the Toyo MT's are NOT excessively loud on road. Very tolerable. However, they are E load tires in the 285's which can translate to a harsher ride and are heavier compared to most other tires. If I were to choose... I'd choose the Toyo's (and I've had BFG AT 295's before).

Hoser- Roll your windows up (I know they're down all the time over there in the cool bay breeze) and turn that stereo down!

Just kidding- I know you have 35's but I actually saw 37's the other day and good gawd those things have to buzz going 70 mph.

I love the look of the MT's!

Well maybe a call to Christo will shed some light in my lift dilemma. I figured you guys here would have a run into this situation before and could enlighten me. No one on here is running the heavy lift with out bumpers? Shott’s where are you?

Why not go with 863 heavies in the rear? If the ride sucks, throw a couple bags of rice back there. :D It would be a constant reminder to get that Slee bumper sooner rather than later.

Don't know what you mean by "heavies". It is going to be difficult to satisfy your needs today and 1-year down the road when you add the bumpers and maybe other heavy accessories (like drawers). A couple hundred bucks for a pair of heavier/stiffer/longer rear springs, when you add the bumpers, is pocket change in the grand scheme of mod costs. Put the 865's or 866's on now (IMO the 866's are best for road/gravel roads and not for on-trail use) and call it a day.

Thank you for the impute spressomon. Per Slee Off-road their medium kit lists the 865s (0-200 lbs) and the heavy kit lists the 866s(200-300 lbs). Also a set of coils runs 160.00, so we should just get the 865's and add the 866 or 863 (300-500 lbs. when he upgrades to a rear carrier, makes sense to me. You state the 866 or best for road and gravel roads but not for on-trail use, what gives? Could you elaborate a little on this? Are they too stiff on the trail and will not flex well or do they just deliver a harsh ride off-road?

My experience on different types of on-trail use with the 866 left me with the impression that they are two springs fighting each other. The spring rate is not linear, or not as linear as a standard non-progressive coil. So on rollers/whoops the softer coil section unloads then there is an abrubt ramp up to the stiffer coil...add several large washboards/rollers and the rear end is kinda out of control. On road or slow on-trail wheeli'n this phenomenon was generally not experienced.

Also somewhat related to this: With all the heavy accessories I have added to my rig the OME shocks felt like they were too soft and not controlling the rear springs effectively. I was fixated on replacing the shocks and Christo suggested a stiffer spring (than my then 863)...which indeed solved the issue of the overly soft shock (amazing to me...but then I am not a suspension guru). I finally have arrived (thanks to Darren and Christo :) ) at what is the perfect balance in the rear for my rig and my uses.

FYI: I ran these springs over the past 18-months (trying different packers with each spring too): 865, 866, 863, custom 4" 80 series/Slee spring; and the current custom (don't have a model number) Slee/Darren 19.5mm rod springs (about 15mm shorter than the 863...).

Thanks for getting back to me with your experience. I spoke with Christo and we came to the conclusion the 865 will offer the best ride quality for a rig without a rear tire carrier. When my brother does upgrade with a rear carrier we can just add some packers or go with new springs to keep the rear from sagging. I am sure it will be some time before he gets the rear carrier anyway. He will most likely get the front bumper then winch then rear carrier. Since this will be his daily driver that is a lot of time to put up with an overly harsh ride.

Tare,
The 865 worked well for me up until I installed Christo's rear bumper w/tire carrier and the AO drawers. You should be fine and happy with your choice.

I have the 866's and I'm happy with the ride when riding solo, sporty feeling and you dont get that rear end slumping over on turns. the weight of the sliders should help a little. I carry the family with me 80% of the time so that means about 800 lbs. in the car settle it down nice. thats six of us not three, in case some of you are wondering...dont forget the slee diff drop!
