Has anyone got one of this tool? Chicago Pneumatic 7900 - Mini Air Reciprocating Saw

One of these would work too.

I need to cut 1.5" PVC pipes and I have very little space to work with. Hack saws and sawzall are too big. PVC pipe cutters (ratcheting style) only go up to 1 5/16" OD. So, I can't think of anything else to use at the moment. Ideas?

Thanks.

Yep. Also known as a body saw. Runs on air, just so you know. The blades are not very large, but you are welcome to try it.

I also have the ratcheting PVC cutters. Don't know how large they will cut.

what about dremel w/cut-off blade?

Ash,

How about a cable saw? You should be able to pick one up at Lowes. If not, the local irrigation supply stores carry them (Sierra Irrigation, SISCO, etc).

Also, good old regular line string will cut PVC. Sort of hates getting wet, but will certainly cut dry and is good for tight places.

These work greart in tight spots but have a low long term use. What are you fixing anyways and how much room? Last time I looked at Lowes or Home Depot they didn't have them, but SISCO should.

Thanks for the info guys.

Pappy,
What's the stroke on the body saw? Do you think it'll cut through a 1.5" OD pipe? Find out if your PVC cutter can do 1.5" pipe, evidently, that size is a hair too large for most cutters I guess. I might pick up a cable saw tomorrow just for S&G.

Siren,
I've got a dremmel but the location of the pipes and the room doesn't lend itself too well. I might try using the dremmel with a cutting drill bit thing as a last resort.

I'm working on hot tub pipes. Back in the 80's when they installed this bad boy, they didn't think about using isolating valves for pump removal and service. The pumps from that vintage are made real well and easily serviceable, once you put them on the bench!

Thanks all for the input.

Ash, the stroke is right at 1.5 inches with the guard on. I think the guard comes off and will give you 2.5 inches.

Alright, cable cutter it is then. Thanks.

Just be careful not to be too energetic with it or the cable will overheat and get all twisted and kinked up.

I can't believe you need something "special" for 1.5" PVC pipe! Get a freaking hack saw you wimp!:flipoff2:

If the area is tight they sell small hand saws to fit like the reciprocating with only the blade sticking out. How about cutting it farther back, you know you want to redo the whole plumbing system anyway.

Something tells me you may be up to something else?
