hey I am ripping out the rest of my existing carpet today. I have it all ripped out and I am going to put a layer a paint down and then put some Damplifier mats I just bought down before I recarpet it.

My question is this, There is some existing carpet glue and little padding hairs everywhere. Now I am not planning on doing a professional job and I am just using paint from a spray can, do I need to get the rest of the glue and padding hairs off before I paint? There is very little padding hair, just in a few spots. If I do need to get that glue off, what do I use? There is also only glue in a few spots.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Acetone or "lacquer" thinner appear to work pretty well in such situations..... I am not really into the chemical route and would likely go the route of a mini grinder with an paint stripper pad(looks like an industrial sponge) or possibly drill and wire attachment...orbital sander? ---these however may be a little on the abrasive/harsh end of the spectrum. Just some thoughts. Trial and error sounds like the ticket. Good luck nonetheless. :grinpimp:

acetone works well, just use gloves!

PPG Prep Solv should take the glue and hair off without attacking the existing paint.

Thanks for advice, I struggled for awhile scraping the stuff off. Got a little lazy and just a decided to start spraying the paint. There is no rust on the floor and there wasn't much left of the glue and hairs. My brother sjpitts thought I should have done a little better job and removed more and he is probably right. I am now trying to install a 60 emergency brake cable. I have Fj60 axles in my 55 so it is currently without a emergency brake. I am taking pictures and will start a new thread on the work thats being done.
