Have come across, in my opinion, a great deal on a rusted out 83 fj60 with 117,000 on the clock. Frame is completly rotted out and not safe to drive. However the interior in this thing is immaculate. It is really to bad. Previous owner has all receipts for services performed since day one. The thing runs really well and he wants 750 for it. Also has an aftermarket A/C unit in it. My idea was to buy it for the engine, trans, and transfer and part out the rest. Would like to have a 2F in my 74. Not to mention it has power steering. Guess my question is, I know the 2F will work out alright but what about the trans and transfer case? Any differences I need to be aware of? Or just run what I have in my 74? Reason I was wanting the trans as well is because mine is dew for a overhaul. Keeps slipping out of first. Anyway any advice would be great. Thanks, Dan.

Owyhee Jackass did this to 'modernize' his FJ45, and it worked out well as a 'full package' swap, including the axles. Since you'll lose the t/case mounted parking brake, it makes sense to pick up the one on the rear 60 axle as well.

Just a caveat tho; the axle swap is much easier as an SOA.

AHH. Was not aware the parking brake was on the rear axle. Did not want to swap my axles. Seems like more work then I am currently set up to do. I am still spring under and did not want to go spring over.

Howdy! I wa thinkin that somebody offered a disc brake kit for the back of the split case. John

I bought an H41 with a splitcase from $or to put in my '74 and Curt hooked me up with a new parking brake drum that allows me to keep my old parking brake, it wasn't very expensive

Dan, Fj 60 into your fj45, the rear diff compleat will fit, I think you will have to move your spring mouts on housing about 20 mm in or out. Frount diff housing goes straight in. Gearbox maybe, look at bell housing and mounts, if they fit a much stronger tcase. Power stearing box will have to be mounted on side of chassis. After all that, fit brake power boster and master cyldner, and you will have a car that will stear and stop. Ian.
