Can someone post a pic of the engine compartment of a snorkled RHD I need to see how the air intake routes to the driverside air fiilter from the PSide mounted snorkel.
I know what it would look like if I mounted on the DSide but I am in planning stages of a turbo and need this view to think it through.

A snorkeled RHD has the air filter and brake booster in front of the driver - everything is swapped over - hope these help - the diesel layout is pretty much the same I think

I have just gone through a hundred pics and posts....I thought snorkels were either LHD or RHD but I have yet to see any pics with the snorkle on the PS of a RHD.
Am I correct

I think you are correct.

It seems that when the the steering wheel is switched sides, so is everything else under the hood.

There were some pics of a home made dual snorkel arrangement someone on this site had made (but I can't find the link).

So I would say self build is one of your options - mine cost less than £50 ($75)

The air cleaner is on the same side whether it is RHD or LHD this I know since I own both what I am trying to sort out is who sells the snorkel to fit the other side of the hood than the regular snorkels in just about every PIC I see.
tmarx has the snorkle I am looking for and showed a engine pic I was looking for Thanks tmarx.
Looking at his engine bay this may be a difficult for me to plumb for a turbo and possibly a inter-cooler and may have to stick to the regular snork and live with a little blind spot.

That's not true...not everything under the hood. Steering, brake, AC and clutch stuff, but everything else usually ends up in the same or similar positions. As dieseler noted, with the snorkel, it's the position of the air cleaner he's concerned with...and that rarely changes between RHD and LHD...

I have a snorkle on my RHD Landcruiser and it is on the drivers side. There is no blindside because it hugs the pillar. The air filter is on the drivers side on my truck. I used the safari snorkle.

Yeah my HJ47 has a snorkel on the passenger side. I'll snap some photos tonight for you. Can't remember exactly how the plumbing goes, but it comes through a hole in the fender towards the front (infront of the Landcruiser badge), then runs back towards the air filter.

Here's the best I could find for now:

Hey Dingbatt interested to see the plumbing on yours since it enters up front by the radiator.

Hello Boyo,

Could you please post more pictures of your power oulet? And when it is open?

Safari advertises their snorkle for the 40 series based on engine type, not steering position. The H and F engine goes on the left (like mine) and the B goes on the right. I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Josh

X2 same on my HJ60 RHD ("Airflow" brand made to fit snorkle, from my local Toyota parts dealer). My old BJ40 was on RH side also. No worries with restricted view :D

Josh,

My HJ47 has its air intake on the left hand side, While my HJ60 is on the right hand side. It looks to me like its simply a case of space utilisation, in the HJ47 space is at a premium so the intake duct is brought over the top of the rocker cover, as the battery takes the space that the air filter occupies in the HJ60.

G'day Matt,

I don't know about the HJ60- I should have said that I was talking about the 40 series, sorry. From what I can tell, the FJ40/5 and HJ45/7 the snorkle goes on the left, and on the BJ40/2 it's on the right (as this is the side the air filter is on). I'm not sure about the BJ44 with the 2B, but I would assume it is the same as the B and 3B. Tom/Lostmarbles?

Cheers,

Josh

Both my Bj42 Cdn spec and my JDM Bjs one being LHD and the other RHD have the air filter on the same side which is opposite of Hj47 and Dingbatts.
Same side as the HJ60 pic....guess I have to go with a snorkel mounted on the air filter side,it will be to complicated to plumb for a turbo and IC from the other side.
Thnx for the pics guys

Josh, is Safari different in the US vs the rest ? I only get 1 part#no for the H, F and 3B series : SS401HF and they are all left mounted ?

Safari - Snorkels

make a custom snorkel and mount it the way you want.
this is what i did ... just saying it can be done cleanly.

if you already have the snorkel then a flex from the LH side to the RH side, zipped tied out of the way and you are done.

i have never seen the airbox on the LHS of a 40 before...
is it factory or modified?

Wayne,

To the best of my knowledge, the 2F non-smog engine has the airbox like mine (irrespective of steering position), and the smog-equipped 2F has the air cleaner on top of the valve cover with the air intake on the left side of the engine compartment. I saw an FJ40 LX from NSW here which was smog-equipped, and it had the US-style air cleaner on top of the valve cover.

I agree with you- make a custom one:).

tmarx,

One of the few BJ42s I've seen here in Adelaide has a Safari snorkle on the right side. When I was buying my snorkle, the offroad shop had a listing for either B or F/H for the snorkle; I assume that is because it is for either side of the rig.

Cheers,

Josh
