My little brother backed into me and put a dent in my passenger quarter panel. It broke the tabs on the tail light which attaches to the body. The light that attaches to the tailgate is fine. Where is the best place to get the light assembly? Anyone got one they don't need?

thx jason

Try these guys: http://www.cruiserparts.net/parts/uzj100.htm

I have purchased a couple different parts from them. But call them to inquire about parts as their website isn't usually up to date on their inventory.

Thanks for the link. They had one much cheaper than new. Much appreciated.

Yeh it was used good condition which was what i preferred anyway. I will let you know how it looks when it shows up. They also sell kits for the front and rear which could update the lights of the earlier 100 series to the look of the 07 model. Pretty cool but an expensive option. I'd much rather do my lift; which is next on the agenda.

I recently updated all headlight bulbs to superbrights or HID's. I originally purchased cool blue sylvania bulbs which are a nicer white light halogen bulb. They are relatively cheap but are much brighter. The most expensive halogens are the same cost as the Hella HID bulbs which are sold for high, low and fog bulbs. Advance auto has all the sylvania bulbs on sale right now but I also discovered some HID APC bulbs which are HID for $22 per pair. These are half the cost of the Hella HID's. Anyone used these APC aftermarket bulbs??? They seem like a good deal.

if the "HID" bulbs you speak of do not have an ignitor/ballast system and they are just regular replacements they are just blue coated halogen bulbs. HIDs cost WAY more then $22 per pair.

So are the Hella replacements which are packaged and labeled HID also not true HID's? They are $50 per pair?

Hey Loud, what LED's are you running and or where? After replacing high and low beams I wanted to replace my parking lights with a brighter whiter bulb. I found a couple options one "superbright LED" that I did not like. Trying to get rid of the yellow OEM bulbs. I believe the replacement is a 168 or 194LL (longlife version). I was looking for a brighter white LED or Halogen bulb. The LX may have different bulbs...

the 4,800k model is the one i have basicly, they came out with new colors since i was last on the website.

i have those in my rear licence plate lights, front map lights and doors. See pictures below. I got them from a japanese importer here in NY...not sure if they are sold here normally now.

as far as differences between LX/LC bulbs, its all on the front facia, everything else is the same at least for my 2000 model year.

Did you replace the tail light on the quarter panel yourself? Was it fairly simple to do? I need to replace mine and was wondering if I should attempt to do it myself. TIA.

I havent done it yet. The guys from cruiserparts.net called me this past Saturday and told me they quoted me on the wrong part!!! I'm not sure why it took 9 days for a phone call as I was waiting for it to arrive in the mail since it should have shipped on the 11/22 from what I was originally told... I also explained which taillight I needed for a 100 SERIES CRUISER several times... Pretty frustrated as to what I thought was originally a good deal... They did tell me they had a used one but it would be more than quoted which would end up around $90 after shipping... Not really a deal by any means... When they did call I was working on my boat Friday night (11/30) getting ready for a rockfish tournament so I didn't feel like arguing and just canceled my order....

Anyone else got a taillight for a 99??? I need the passenger side and not the one that's on the drop down tailgate...

Thanks for any help...

yeah, super easy. open up the tailgate and you will see two screws on the side by the tailight. Unscrew those and then, with a firm blow from the palm of your hand...push the tailight "lip" away from the center of the vehicle, dont pull the light towards the rear, push it away from the side of the car. Two pressure clips will "pop" off and then you can disconnect the wires/take the bulbs out and replace the housing.

It would take me less then 5 mins to do, start to finish, very simple.

Well that's a bummer. I have had good luck with them with the 2-purchases I have made. Hoser sent this link to me when I recently had to buy the upper and lower rear tailgate (cruiserparts didn't have it). I had a very good experience here too...worth a shot.

HID = High Intensity Discharge (lamp).
A lamp assembly with a ballast and electronic "gimmickery" that provides for extremely (energy) efficient light. As you know in a halogen bulb, or in a regular incandescent bulb, most energy used just goes away as heat, and is not "converted" into (visible) light.

Blueish/whitish halogen bulbs are very popular at the moment since many believes that they get "HIDs" at a steal.

Not going into it here, but most of these bulbs are actually less efficient (if they have blue tinted glass instead of a normally clear glass on the actual bulb) than regular halogens. Some people like the "blueish" look though. Me, I prefer the better visiblity of "regular" halogens.

All that said, you can have the best bulb, but if you do not have a reflector that is properly matched to it, nothing's gained...

Then on the other hand, DOT rules provides for some strange regulations that just results in crappier ligh output from halogen light assemblies compared to same vehicle in i.e. in Europe. But, that is a whole other thread.;)

Have you gotten your tail light yet?

Great! Thanks for the instruction.

Loud, how much are those Polargs? I use similar bulbs by PIAA for my parking lamps. And for the rear license plate, map lights, and doors I use generic.

i had those PIAA's...yuck. They were like, 30 bucks a pair i think? High quality stuff, ive had a couple in for several years now no problems.

Thanks for the info... I'm still using upgraded halogens for now but they are much brighter than my stock lights. I noticed how much I needed more light when beach driving at night recently.

I have not gotten a tail light yet. The local body shops are busy here so I'm still hoping to find a used one before I get my dent pulled out.

JGray:

I have a used passenger rear outer corner taillight for a 2000 listed here somewhere in Classifieds.

Not sure of the exact fit to a 1999 model year but I would bet it's the same.

If you do the research and decide you want it, let me know what you would pay. Send me a PM. . Pictures are included in the post. Only problem is small crack in the the clear are over the reverse white bulb area.

Oops. I responded to a Wicked old thread. That's what I get for using the search tool.
