Bought it like this. Had 80k plus miles in Cali when I bought it and shipped it east.
Not sure of solution.

new glass? clean inside? (I assume you've tried all the normal cleaning crap on it?)

Meguires makes a clear plastic polish for motorcycle helmet visers. I think it's called plast-x....

new glass should be available from Toyota. If not, a bodyshop can polish it and/or clearcoat it.

Start with glass cleaner + microfiber cloth.

If it's on the inside, remove the cluster, remove the glass, and clean the inside. Then send it out for repair, after pricing one out from Toyota.

That looks exactly like mine. I took it out when I did the temp gauge mod and cleaned it then polished it with Plastx. It came out perfect and was easy. I think it might have been from some kind of cleaner that was sprayed on the steering wheel. When I put it all back together, only a few of the lights on the dash worked. I took the whole thing apart again to see what I did wrong and it turns out I didn't do anything wrong, the dimmer got rotated to off when I was mucking about. Doh!

Thanks for the info. Tried compound before to no avail. Will buy Plastx.
Hopefully its just the outside. Not handy enough to remove the glass.

I had these type spots on my windows and NOTHING would take them off, even a high speed buffing wheel with polishing compound. A glass repair tech suggested trying this stuff on it. This stuff is like nothing I have ever seen before. It works like a champ and is not too bad on the wallet. Try it before you spend more than $20.00 on any other solution. Just be sure you READ THE INSTRUCTIONS before you get started.

Looks like you can pick up a new meter cover for roughly 30 bucks, not bad. Not sure how long to put in, might have to pull some of the dash.

I just hope the PO had heavily tinted windows :flipoff2:

Shouldn't take more than 30 min to an hour max to do the install of the mater cover itself. Do the temp-mod while you are in there, it's a no brainer if you're already that deep into it. I just did this on the :princess:'s rig which is a 93. The dash is definitely more delicate than my 97, it just took a little more care.

@ Nay.

The cover is plastic isn't it?

Yes the cover is plastic. The snaps that hold it to the cluster can get kind of brittle too. I broke one of the side snaps, but there are enough of them that it still holds together tight.

The question really is whether or not you can remove it while wearing latex gloves, eh?

Same thing happened to my wife's cr-v a while back. I used some armor all cleaner and some mist got on the guage cluster plastic. It basically etched the plastic and nothing would get the spots out. I ended up jus replacing the plastic.

I would guess that some cleaners meant for glass might damage plastics??
