So the smaller belt on the alternator is new and is squeaking. My two theories are it could be the wrong belt or its too loose, as you can see in the video. I would tighten it but all of its 3 pullies are shared. So is there a way to just tighten that belt? (the blue one in diagram)

Or could I loosen the tension on another pulley of the power steering belt and move the alternator out to re-tighten both belts?

Let me hear some thoughts.

The only way to tighten the smaller/inner alternator belt is by the adjustment bracket on top of the alternator. You will need to loosen the longer “green stripe” belt first through the PS pump adjustment and/or the idler tension pulley below it in your diagram.

Adjust alternator belt first, then readjust the green stripe belt. They all should be adjustable independently.

Are you the one that did the desmog on this motor?

Looks like you have removed your smog pump. My truck is the same. This is the belt combo I used.
  • AC Belt: Bando 3460 or similar
  • Alternator: Gates TR22405 or similar
  • Power Steering: Gates TR22588 or similar
You can compare what you have by Googling "Bando 3460 Cross Reference" (or whatever belt you have) and going to FindItParts. They list every belt that matches.

The belt and/or pulley contact surfaces are contaminated.
Remove the belt - and discard it, then clean all the pulleys.
Replace the belt with another TOYOTA belt & try again.
In my experience, once a belt gets coolant on it, its history.

Interesting. Will definitely give it a try. And no I am not, bought it desmogged.

it also looks like the belt is too narrow. it sits low in both pullies in the pic
