hello.
ih8mud rookie here, but have owned a 1980 sr5 2wd, a 1980 hilux 4x4, a 1984 hilux 4x4, and now my 7/77 FJ40 4x4. other than that, only owned one subaru for the life-list, minus the 1986 tercel 4x4 that i had for a few months before the city of durango stole it!
here is my problem: I left the key in the "on" position overnight in my 1977 fj40, and that fried the Pertronix electronic ignition crossover. now i am trying to retrofit back to the old reliable points ignition system. i want to make sure that all of my wires are right before trying to fire the 40.
i need help:
1) figuring out where to connect all of the wires coming out of the distro, coil, and resistors, and to make sure the ignition wires from the key are hooked up in the right spots.
the best way for this may be for someone to take a few photos of their 1977 fj40 with points ignition so that i can get it right.
or
if someone has a GOOD wiring diagram (my chilton and haynes manuals fall well short of accomplishing this) and can send me a copy or post here
or
if someone can tell me how to post pics here, i can do that and maybe some toyota guru can help me troubleshoot this mess of wires.
thanks in advance,
andy gibbs
p.s. i am a NOVICE when it comes to repairs, and usually will puss out on the side of not wanting to f'ck things up worse than they already are. but i am trying to overcome all of that...
