My 2000 FJ100 needs a new transmission assembly - torque converter seized up unexpectedly at 150k miles. Dealership quoted $4500 for replacing with remanufactured transmission. Two questions (1) Anyone have or know where I can buy a used or remanufactured FJ100 transmission (2) If I replace the transmission, are there any external factors that would have caused the transmission/torque converter to fail in the first place.

Thanks,
Brad

Check car-part.com. You can get a low mileage original trans on there and swap it out in an afternoon.

Did you by chance buy the one on eBay in Wilmington?

Edit: Never mind, just the mileage above.

There a few reports here on MUD of MY 2000 transmission failures. Here's a long thread.

2000 Land Cruiser Transmission Failure

External factors would include lack of maintenance, but there is an internal issue in a few of them also.

Im sure one of our vendors on here can get you a reman. Or use your googlefu and search for a toyota delaership that has an online store. I saw some for around 2,000 plus core. Not sure about shipping though.
