Like the title says I'm looking to buy my first FJ40 - found this locally and would like to get some advice on potential issues, watch points, estimated value and so on.

A little on what I'm looking for: a reliable daily driver, needs to climb up to the ski resort I work at (7' for 15miles) '77 Land Rover 88II with a 2.5l crawled up it at 30mph - never again. I am willing to do basic work and cosmetic work - anything major and it'll be a first, not looking to do full restoration job (I'm not a purist - not yet anyway), but project work is fine.

I've not seen it yet and would like your opinion, just need to know what I should be looking for / asking when I go have a look.

Thanks in advance for any help.

THANKS! Happy Turkey Day!

How much is he/she asking for it??? That's the million dollar question.

Going by the generic pis, I'd say it's a $5k cruiser. The paint is s***. I can see some "slices of diamond" probably being used to cover rot up:whoops:.

I'd like to see the floors from underneath the vehicle as well as from inside.

If it runs, stops and everything works as it should $5k is not a bad price. If he is asking anymore I'd walk away. The small block/T400 trans wouldn't be on my list of must haves when looking for a first time FJ40. They can plague you with little quirks (wiring mainly)which can be hard to diagnose.

Toomanytoyzz is more of an expert than I am, but the pics are a little hard to tell if anything is being hidden, etc. The trouble areas appear suspect and you need those pictures as mentioned. Also, no way to tell if 4000 miles is accurate... Dont make my mistake and get a compression check. This one would not be a buy it unseen rig IMO but without other pics (underneath, floor boards, rear sill, etc.) Its hard to put a drop dead $$ tag on it. Good luck!
