when it comes time to repair an accident, id much rather have the point of failure the spindle than the bumper surface.
While that is true if the bumper is hit hard enough to damage the standard spindles, it will probably damage the heavy duty spindles as well. In either scenario I'd probably just get a new bumper
--------------------------
So I got the BIOR rear bumper installed, took about 5 hours, including installing the ARB on my previous FJC(sold to Aka Lumbajak last weekend)
Plastidipped quarter panels and I can run the spare underneath. It hangs about 4" below the bumper surface and if I go to a 255 or 235(Like Wrnrog?) maybe it can be hidden with the raising spare tire mod. Only part that scares me is the fact that one of the spare tire holders is on the oem crossbar, so if I run a spare down there temporarily it will be held in two points only. Having a spare down there for when I get tired of the opening of the swingarm can be a good idea for now. Photo of the spare is attached(its not lifted all the way in the last picture
Attached are photos of my BIOR bumper and FJC ARB bumper(lots of cutting on this one because the ARB hit a cow...thank goodness we have power tools these days!)
I will be covering the spindles with pvc and capped ends until I finish the spare tire carrier assembly, I don't want to rush this learning experience. So far so good!
Thanks for the great custover service Mike!(BIOR) Still want that bottle opener btw
