I haven't used Mud much and I'm not sure the right way to post this to get some help, but here goes it.

I have a 1991 HZJ75 LHD. I swapped a 1HD-T turbo into it to replace the 1HD. It won't start now and I think I've narrowed it down to a faulty starter. I've seen someone advertising new NipponDenso starters for the 70 series and although little bit pricey, maybe the way to go. Someone told me I could use a Cummins 6BT starter and modify it for the 75 and that would be cheaper. Anyone with any thoughts on this?

I'v tried that before. The car came out of Honduras and the VIN isn't recognized. When I put in the part number to search , most of the dealers don't carry it or it's discontinued. There may be someone out there that does have it but it's hard to find. I'll keep trying thanks for the info.

It’s available all day long from any Toyota dealer.

Trust me. Don’t worry about a VIN or applicability. It fits and works for a 1HZ.

Will this same starter work in the 1HD-T? That has a different flywheel does it not?

Just checking as he states in his original post the 1HZ was swapped with a 1HD-T

Either way @NuchatlitzRod if you know of some old-school auto electric shops out there that rebuild alternators and starters, they could rebuild the existing one as well. You know the shop, the one with all the grampa's working in it?? We have one nearby (in the closest city to me) and they have never steered me wrong with any of my rebuild requests. Best of luck getting that machine running!!

Same same.

12v? ...1/2 the volts but .25 the cost of 24v.

We supposedly have an old school rebuilder down here in Portland. That was going to be my route on a 24V unit if/when needed. I'll find the contact info if you investigate that route.

OEM wherever possible and a quick search says the part # Onur posted is only like $200 US bones. But looks like Terrain Tamer has one as well for your analysys.

Driving around to dealerships looking to see who has one on shelf will be a waste of time. Call ahead, order that part number for pickup.

If you’re still running across issues sourcing a starter, we stock a wide variety of diesel starters @ Cruiser Outfitters including OEM and high quality aftermarkets for both 12V and 24V 1HD & 1HZ applications. All in-stock and ready to ship from SLC. We speak very fluent 1HD and 1HZ :D

( Many others not yet on CruiserTeq.com, email for specifics, info@cruiseroutfitters.com )

Usually an inoperative starter is down to a worn plunger/contacts, bad earth or bad starter relay. All cheap fixes. The plunger assembly can be removed from the starer unit very easily, though you may need to remove the unit from the engine (I'm not familiar with the 1HZ).
