My inspection went out in September of 07, but my rig wasn't running at the time. I just recently got it up and running, do I still have to pay the $250 fine for letting the inspection go out?

Give Ed at Mostly Toyotas a call on that one. Since your vehicle does not require the emissions inspection, it may not have triggered the automatic notice. The NC inspection requirements have now gone stickerless. Tell Ed "Dave" says hey . . .

To avoid the fee you can try for a wavier go to
NCDOT Division of Motor Vehicles: Vehicle Services
if you got the warning letter of the $250 fine you still may have to pay, or after paying the fine twice like i did, you could turn in the tag before the inspection goes past 4 mths and there is no fine. Drawback: can't drive said vehicle. :princess: said i could either turn the tags in or sell the truck, no brainer.

My understanding is that a fine is automatic where you are subject to emissions testing as that inspection sticker is tracked electronically. The non-emissions testing stickers (yellow) are not tracked, but you could get the same fine if pulled over. I do believe if you come in with even a non-emissions sticker that is out of date, you have to pay for both the missed year's inspection then the current inspection.

Thats why if my sticker has elasped on one of my old trucks due to a deployment or such i just take it off myself before i go to the inspection station. Then they do not know what month it expired. Learned the hard way.

Thanks for that. I did not know that and need to get my truck inspected also. Will be removing the sticker this weekend before it goes in for inspections. Does anyone know if they check side mirrors. My passenger is cracked and has been since i bought the truck.

WOW NC inspections sound like they suck. I just read a thread on the Samba about how difficult it is to get a title for an out of state vehicle that is over 30 years old.
