Is anyone else experiencing a lag in how quickly the screen comes on upon ignition? I'm finding I have to wait about 5 second or so before being able to put the LC in reverse. If I start it and then immediately put it in reverse to back out of a parking spot I will not have the rearview camera on. I have to wait for the nav to kick in, which takes it's sweet time. This is also true of the A/C.

Maybe this is normal, and nothing to have checked out, but I'm used to immediate response in my previous vehicle, also a Toyota (2011 4Runner).

Thanks in advance!

Yep happens in mine - might have something to do with it now being a HDD nav.

Same in mine. Just noticed it the other day when I was in a hurry - usually not an issue.

I think the nav completes the boot process faster if you do NOT touch the "CONTINUE" button on the screen during boot-up.

FWIW

Yeah, I never do that, but it's the time between ignition and the screen with the "continue" option popping up that's annoying.

Is there a way to make another screen (like Audio) the default? That might be the problem - I rarely use the map, yet I have to wait for it to boot-up each time I drive!

On the 4Runner the Audio screen was the one that popped-up first, and you could then choose "Map" if that's what you wanted. Either that or the screen you had on when you last shut down the system - I don't remember because for me it was the Audio 99/100.

Personally I use "Audio" with much greater frequency than the map.

Come to think of it, it's also annoying that every time I want to see the artist or title os song I'm listening to I need to hunt for the Audio button.

you can do split map screen and you will have half audio and half map on the screen, this will allow you to see who the artist is etc.. and the map

Thanks, I'll try that.

No changing the default though, as far as anyone knows?

Also for those of you who have AC controls on the screen, if you put the car in reverse and get the rear camera to come on, push climate and youll realize theres noway to get back to rear camera view (until ofcourse you get out of reverse and back again)

I -- THINK -- there is a setting buried in the setup menu for default screen. I'll look and see if I can find it again. I am pretty sure there is also a setting for remaining on a screen or reverting to the prior one ....

I believe on the 2013s, you can press the view button on the dash below the instrument panel and get to the camera view again.

Unfortunately, the VIEW button only cycles views from the side and front cameras - no access to the rear camera.

Gaijin you might want to double check that. I checked my 2013 after reading your post and found the the button will not cycle to the rear camera if the transmission is in any gear other than reverse. In reverse, the button will cycle to the rear camera as well as the one in front and on the exterior mirrors.

That's good to know...and I get the whole "first world problem" comment, but this entire site is full of that...it's what we're here for. And hey, hopefully pointing out shortcomings on a $70K + vehicle might lead to fixes for the next guy.

All this sounds like a first world problem. Lol

Have your other 63 posts been about water shortage and the transmission of AIDS? That asinine meme is all that would be posted if everyone were as original as you. ;)

On topic, agreed re the nav lag. Worst is when the screen goes from rearview camera to the warning page whole you're reversing. Like most, I've always been able to reverse without a camera but to give people one that can disappear at an important time is dangerous. Other than that and the lockout while moving even when there's a passenger, it's a good nav unit.

Thanks for correcting me - I hadn't checked that.

Good to know.

Glad it worked .. otherwise I'd have been going through the less than obvious menu structure of the system trying to find the setting that controlled that feature :D

Well, you were not 100% correct - when in reverse, the "View" button will cycle between the two side views and the reverse view, but the front view is not available.

So ...

When in a forward gear, the view button cycles the views from the two side cameras and the front camera.

When in reverse, the view button cycles the views from the two side cameras and the rear camera.

Whew! Glad we could solve that one.

Carl L's point stands - way too much "figurin'n'fussin" for something that's a safety feature.
