Totally appreciate everyone's help in the matter. I am going on the Mojave trail tomorrow and have spares of a lot of important things including water pump, smog pump, t stat, ujoints, belts , hoses, filters, etc but definiteluy not an extra diff!!

I was just thinking that an alternator could be needed. I tried calling around and everyone could not get me one until I returned, so im off with out a spare. It is running really strong and I am a really mellow driver so it should be fine.

I ordered an ACDelco rebuild from Rock recently. When I received it, it had the wrong pulley installed (2 groove pulley) and the VR was literally cracked in half. Needless to say I returned it. I would say that some rebuilds are lacking in quality control. The ACDelco unit said made in Mexico.

Here are some pics of the alternator bolted up. My OEM alternator had the hookups in the 2 position, the Duralast had them in the 10 position... but it still worked out. You can also see the original pulley that was swapped in.

Curious here... the second photo of three shown, the VR appears pressed up against the outlet hose of the thermostat? Apparently they are okay to run butted up against each other?

Yes, this was before I put a longer belt on though. However, I ran it that way for a few thousand miles without an issue. I would still opt for the longer belt, as it gets the alt off the radiator hose.

And a longer belt? could you tell me which that would be? looking for "cheapest" fix to a POS reman'd alt I just bought to swap back to the working Cressida alt that was in my truck. Read a bunch about the GM swaps too. Trying to figure out what the best corse of action is here. Truck is basically my DD... my beater has basically blown its clutch.

Sorry, I answered this same question in another thread and I'm getting them mixed up, but here's a cut and paste of my response:

I used a NAPA belt #22635 and it gave me just enough room. The size was 15mm x 1627mm

It wasn't the most elegant solution, but it worked for me. I hope that helps.

Thanks. I went yesterday with my belt and asked for one a tad longer, he found in his book another one inch longer... not 100% sure if it was that number but will call them now. It should be in about 11am. I swear what a f-ing pita this alt crap is.... Thanks for piping back in @CaptClose

Let me know how it goes.

@CaptClose Got the old one in with that same belt you mentioned. Drove down to Napa and had him test the old alt in the truck and the reman'd one and both are crap. I do have a cs130 coming and was given pretty clear (tho still boogles me a tad) directions on how to hook it up as a one wire with the dummy light on the dash... Will see. So far my beater Nissan clutch has been cooperating yesterday and today until just a few ago... It grinds, it doesn't. Thank you for all the help.

Has anyone tried using the Bosch units? I have on in my cruiser and its been there for 15 years. Its a reman unit but it works great. Or get a spare and get it remanufactured by a specialist. To me anything oreilly, autozone are crap. Smog pumps included.

The one that was in my truck was a Bosch but clocked at 10 and apparently meant for a Cressida, its the one that is back in my truck with a longer belt but tested "no load" at Napa too.

Keep us posted on using the Cs130 and what mods you had to do to make it fit!! pics too!!

Yea we'll see. Got directions from a guy on fb who is most likely here too. Got the alt, dash resistor light and now waiting on the pigtail attachment, and need to get wiring... Fingers crossed, this is all foreign as heck to me.
