One quick, but related question ... How do you know how tight the belts should be without some specialty tool?

Not sure how to figure out if you're applying 10kg of pressure, but there's a "deflection" method in the 1988 FJ62 3FE repair manual that isn't in the FJ62 FSM

Just press on it with your thumb finger and see that it has a little deflection. You do not want the belt too tight or it will damage bearings. Somewhere between 1/4 - 1/2 in of deflection is sufficient... should not be rubber band tight

a new OEM toyota Mitsubishi bando Land Cruiser Cogged drive belt will stretch after the initial first setting adjustment .....

so , after like 48-84 miles , twist it with your fingers , and push on it , on the flat down , you will notice a notable slack from the initial adjust feel in both the methods i discuss , this is normal and OK

i hope you purchased a OEM TOYOTA new belt , and did not cheat and take the easy path to the P.O. dark side here .........?
