Myth......Busted. 75 tray vs 79 tray. It fits. (1 Viewer)

Now the discution about a 79 tray fits a 75 is dead.... I did change mine to day. I did cut 8cm of the floor and sidewalls in the front of the tray. You have to cut of 8 cm of the front support for the bolts thats connects the frame and tray. The easy way to do it is to drill out the spot welding and cut it and weld it back on place. The six other bolt did fit perfect.....spot on....

I don't think the myth is busted.

The myth was based on a standard tray fitting, not hacking one up to make it fit.

You can make anything fit anything if you hack it enough.

You are right....without cutting the tray it is hopeless. In that case, everyone knows that the 79 tray does not fit the 75 frame.
But it have been asking lots of questions about this, here and on norwegian forums. And it is a good sollution for us who can not get a 75 tray anymore.

I will post pictures of the welding prosess. Last day it was only a "test". It is still some work with welding and painting left. Again, I will post pictures of the prosses.

Hi. It is very cold in my garage these days. But One little step is a step in right direction. I did drill holes for the bow/guard and the holes on the floor. And I have started to cut the supports under the tray. Pictures will come..

I did some work last afternoone....trimming the edges for sharp metal edges..rounding corners and started to cut the framesupport on the tray...a little more step before painting...

I got my factory fender flares to day.

I got the fenderflares for the tray to day. They are looking good, but the tray needs little modifcation around the wheel arch before it fits. I forgot to order 2 pieces too..but I have most of the parts. I will post pictures as the works goes on.

hummm, looks nice. also looks like a quality retro fit.
but the title is misleading.

sadly there will be those that read the title, drop the coin expecting it to be a straight bolt on with no mods. THAT part is not cool.

I like the back-up mode of transportation in the bed. Those flares are not cheap either. I believe around $700.00 plus US for a complete set. But, probably in line with what one would have to pay for new 80's flares.

I was meaning the 79 pick-up with the camel.
The 75 turned out pretty nice.

So are the rear flares genuine Toyota and they need modding to fit factory tub?
Or did I miss something as usual

You did not miss anything. You have to do some modding around the edge of the arch. I think I have to make a paper drawing of the opening of the flare and tranfer i over to the tray. I forgot to order the upper brackets, so when I have all parts I start the work.

I dont know....maybe the 79 LX comes with wider gap on the wheel well. But I can not see it is a diffrent number in the Toyota part catalog either.

It fits perfectly,guys! My HZJ75 is on with this factory overfender. But the wheel arch is smaller for a Non-fender truck, GRJ79 with overfender has wider wheel arch so the wheel arch will have to cut in for an inch to this fender to fit in.
