Hoping to join the 100 Series crowd...see the link for a couple pics from the dealer in Laredo, TX. We have agreed on a price. I have a ton of pics and it looks great. But, I sure would like for a Mud member to check it out. Anyone in Laredo who could check this truck out before I send the Check on Tuesday???

Used 2006 Lexus LX 470 (White SUV) Laredo, Texas

Thanks!!

Maybe try this service:

Inspect My Ride Vehicle Inspections | Vin Check | Car History Report

Since it is coming from a Toyota dealer, and has such low milage, I would normally have thought it would be a "Certified Pre-Owned" in which case Toyota would have done all the inspections... the fact that it is not "Certified Pre-Owned" (at least I didn't see that on the add) makes me wonder if it didn't pass the inspection?

For what it's worth, and given that I have no idea what price you've agreed, their asking price seems to be about $10K more than what I've seen similar LX's list for in Houston.

I don't think Toyota can certify a Lexus...correct me if I am wrong. Thanks for the link. I am paying far less than the asking price. She wants a white Lx and everything I am finding is rusted underneath. This one meets my criteria. NADA retail on the truck is $42500.

I have used the service which saillaw posted and it was well worth the price when I bought my LX. They actually send you pictures all the imperfections of the car and also describe if there is anything wrong with the car..

I think the service is $129

That's very low milage for a 2006, it could be a really nice find. But, it's so close to the border that me being paranoid, I would spend the extra to have it checked by a neutral party.

For some reason I thought toyota dealers could sell "certified" Lexus, but I could be completly wrong. Some of the dealers are both toyota and lexus dealers (not the same lot) and I may just be remembering what I've seen incorrectly.

The guy selling me the car seems extremely competent and honest. He was not at all pushy and very supportive when it came to getting me the pics I needed. The mileage is super low at like 7.5k/year. The story is that a mid 50's lady traded it in on a small Mercedes. Carfax confirms 1 owner. Makes sense since they have a ton of Mercedes on the lot.

Say this out loud - "The used car salesman I am dealing with is honest and competent".

Texas is one of those states that making salvage titles turn back into legit titles is very easy. I'd at least get a local Cruiserhead to check it out and buy them a case of beer for their troubles.

I have been through this on 3 other vehicles thus far and the underbody pics told the truth the salesman couldn't. When he sent the pics addressing the questions, it validated he was telling the truth, at least to the best of his knowledge.

Are you planning on flying in to drive it home, or are you going to ship it? If you are going to drive it home, make sure that if you back out of the deal all you lose is your deposit. If you are going to ship it, I'd spend the $200 to fly there and inspect it yourself before it is shipped.

I've seen some very very very strange things in Laredo.

Plan was to have it shipped...but I am starting to think road trip. No deposit required so nothing to loose. He is waiting on the purchase docs and a check.

I bought my 2006 from Dallas about a year ago via EBay. I bought a roundtrip ticket on southwest just in case. When I saw the vehicle I bought it for the agreed price and started my road trip. I called southwest and canceled my return leg and they refunded my money for it with no questions asked. 100% refund. That is what I would suggest doing.

That's what I am considering...Guess I was hoping someone would help me out. I have a lot of respect for Mud members and would trust someone to check it for me.

$42.6k seems a bit on the high side for an 06 even with 38k miles. I know this is an LC and has more miles, but for example, here's an 07 for $5k less on the asking price. Keep in mind 1) V8 SUV's aren't selling fast at all right now and 2) miles are nothing for a vehicle designed to last 300k. In other words, don't put a special value on in because of the low miles, it's almost irrelevant when it comes to these trucks.

I do agree completely with TXANM, but a ticket and go look at the thing yourself! At the end of the day, your eyeballs will trump 1,000 pictures and inspections.

The '06 looks like it has changed dealership hands in the past couple months. Not a big deal... just that it has been on the market for a few months now. Just google the VIN.
