I worked on my dash layout this morning. I'm going to be using a later FJ40 column with the integral ignition switch. My goal was to utilize all of the holes in the dash and not create any more. I have some cool ideas for the ash tray but I'm still working on that. Am I missing anything? Also, I am completely rewiring it, so I'm not worried about keeping the Toyota connectors.

As far as switches go, my thoughts are:

Dome Light - Heavy Duty marine push pull
Lights - Heavy Duty marine push pull
Wipers - Heavy Duty marine push pull
Hazzard - Heavy Duty marine push pull
Winch - heavy Duty marine keyed on off
Aux - Heavy Duty marine push pull
A/C - Vintage Air Rotary

Ideally, I'd like to put Toyota knobs on all of them. City Racer?

I plan to reuse the original brake and turn lights on the dash.

For the locations of the original ignition switch and the map light plug, I'm thinking of RAM balls which will accept a variety of things (phone, GPS, etc) for driver and passenger.

Above the radio, I'm planning to install two switches for future add ons but mostly to plug the factory holes.

I'm going to be using a Sniper, so no need for a choke.

So, what do you think?

You'll want to make sure to double-check the depth of your proposed switches and cables against clearance in any proposed locations.

I wanted to move my oem headlight switch a bit to make room for a oem fog light switch. I had to compromise due to clearance issues.

That stock headlight switch is pretty long and there are lots of obstructions back there, both sheetmetal and ducting. Same goes for some of the other switches and cables.

I don't know the specs or depth of the marine switches you have in mind, but it's a good idea to double-check.

Steering wheel is 9/75-7/80. But tub appears 7/70-9/72, guessing a 72. Here is my 2/73 that I wonder some time in it's first fifteen years a previous owner had made similar plans. It didn't end well.

I did finally cut my 68 dash for a radio after hesitating for years. but keep the piece I cut and original long lower dash pad. I've never drilled hole in an FJ40 without a lot of thought first.
