Installed 70 series disc on axle..good so far but will have to run spacers I think.

Did you just install 70 series discs on a 40 series axel?

Is this difficult? Have you more photos.

Obj40, The axles are both 70 series, it was easier to just pull the old ones and install the new ones, I forgot how much wider they are but i think only a small amount, you can get and idea from some of the rear photos, mainly I wanted the disc on front and a full-floater in the rear is the only reason I did it. The other benefit was I added the individual parking brakes on the rear which allows me to use them individually for turning on tight corners. I kept the original prop shaft break for parking. I have not posted pictures of how we set up the fiddle brakes but will soon, its pretty simple.
The engine runs great in the truck but is a fair amount larger, it seems than the original B engine, we mounted the battery's in the rear in a compartment in the floor that we fabbed. That gives us a lot more room in the engine bay for the AC compressor and hopefully the supercharger someday. As far as the 15b running, it hits a much harder lick than the original one, after cranking it in the truck we have decided to go with some heavier bushings on the engine mounts. Josh was correct earlier when he said the thing would be louder, I think we are going to have to muffle it down some to hear in the cab.
We are going to road/stress test it this week hopefully then tear it down and make things pretty, right now it looks like crap but wanted to get all the mechanics's done before we addressed pretty. Thanks for the compliments, its been a while in the making and I appreciate the comments....Lee
 
I've used the original B engine mounts and the power steer is about 15mm off the chassis but should be fine. I'm in australia so rhd. I've removed the batt tray and may use an FJ batt tray and mount my air box on the passenger side. I'm hoping to find a someone wrecking a bj40 and use the original fuel of it as my return line. What did you do for your fuel return line and how did you connect it to the tank? Thanks for the help
 
Here, no fuel return line required, just have tank vented to outside...
 
Manual Fiddle Brakes

The fiddle brakes are mounted, LH side of hump, position seems good sitting in drivers seat. Keeping prop shaft brake for parking, these will just be used to allow a little tighter maneuvers. I know its been done before, many times but actually the idea came to me from driving an old 8n ford when I was a kid, we used to pull logs out of the swamp and the tractor front end always came up so you had to use the independent braking to steer. Hope this works half as good.

As you can see by the pictures the engine compartment is fairly crowded, as the trucks a 24 volt, we had to move the battery's to the rear. A time consuming deal but not that hard, I didn't get a picture with the lid down but in the end it will be a fairly neat deal and not that obvious. As you can see, still room for San Mig's:beer:

But make sure you don't forget the grommet where +Ve lead passes through that sheetmetal.

No return fuel line??
you are using a 15B right/ if so, does it not have a rotary IP and if so, what have they done with the return line.

Gengis, I guess your talking of the line back to tank, we just used a t and ran the line back into the tank..if Im not understanding what your saying just let me know and Ill try to get pictures...sorry I'm taking so long but have about 20 things up in the air at the time...we did find a almost new set of rancho 9000 shocks and installed them recently, Michael wants to change the rear ratio to 3.7 as with the 4.11's in the truck now u lose 1st gear as its so low, I think that the 4.11s will be fine and just start in 2nd...we probably won't change anything until we test more.....
 
I have heard that the reason the rotary pumps have a return to the tank, is to circulate the fuel to keep themselves cool. Having a tee may circulate hot fuel and wear out the fuel pump part of the injection pump quickly. I may be wrong but check it out.

Gengis, took your advice, got to looking at the installation and decided to just run another line, used a high pressure fuel line off another truck, brazed a fitting in the fuel tank, was easy as the tank is under the passenger seat, Finally I took the truck on a test drive only about 20km.
Didn't like the way the truck sat, seemed to be leaning to one side, fix was to modify the low side a little.
Didn't like the 4.11 gearing, installing a 3.71 as we speak. You will still be able to start off in 2nd, and because it has 2wd low, can still get a super low first gear. I think top speed will be somewhere between 60/70 mph which will be fine here as most of the traffic even out in the province's runs between 60/80 kph.....tops..
Still have some little things to do then will tear it down again for paint...trying to get it done before rainy season sets in...maybe ...maybe not, who knows, its more fun in the Philippines
 
Finally its prep for paint time..

The truck is running, as usual we found some things we had to change but it mostly went smooth...I know its been a while but in the midst of it all we had a new baby, William Felix, its been so long I forgot that you don't get much sleep at night..;)
For those of you that are not familiar with the Philippines..things are a little slower here...and that's a good thing most of the time..Thanks for being patient...We are prepping the truck for paint, still have to pull the engine to paint under the hood/bonnet...but some shots of the start of it all....Lee

The lifestyle and the values here are one of the reasons I chose to move here, it hearkens back to a time in the US when it was not so crazy and people still had time for family and the ideals my grandfather taught me..though I have to admit that sometimes I miss the things like my Mig and the tools available to me in the states, building this here has let me get back to the basics. Its been a more with less kind of a thing allowing me to remember some long forgotten skills....Lee..:wrench:
 
Some new stuff

Well we redid the Shackles, hand made out of plate steel, our own design..seem to work ok.
Starting to finish paint, about 5 coats now but have not color sanded as of yet...The color is a more blueish red, I really don't like orange shades, painted the top a very light silver, one because I don't like white and two because I think it will make it cooler inside..
One of the pictures is of my wife beside the truck, I think she will need a ladder...
We found some 70 series lights for it, much better off road IMHO.
We are trying to find some Jap Mirrors for the front fenders as I have used them when I was in Japan and really like them...
God willing and the creek don't rise she should be ready for Christmas.
