So, I figured gas should be about $4 a gallon soon, why not trade-in my Tacoma for something that gets 13 mpg and requires premium petrol. It's bone stock with 116,000 miles. Seems to be in pretty good shape, just needs a little attention.

Any suggestions on upgrades / procedures to be done ASAP? It's going to act as my DD, be taken on camping trips, ski trips, and some little off-road stuff. No major upgrades for a while. Just something to play with until I get my FJ55 back up and running (which will be my main off-road rig).

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Cool news on the fuel info. I know old cruisers, but not these new ones. I didn't get anything in the way of manuals and I thought it would be premium from the info I found on the web.

Thanks!

your lucky. gas has been over $4 a gallon here in CA for some time. here we are figuring $5 a gallon to be the norm soon. nice cruiser.

grats, welcome to the club! We can for sho help you spend some money.

if you don't have a tiny :princess: or young kids, dropping the running boards is a cheap way to get a more agreesive, deceptively lifted rig. But then again, the next move would be buying sliders to protect the exposed rockers. From there, well, enjoy the forums, tons of stuff to do.

Dang looks sharp! And my sticker also says premium, but the Cruiser in it's 181k miles of existence has yet to see that quality of fuel...
For mods/upgrades... Running boards (if applicable, but judging by the children's toys, may want to keep those on), torsion bar crank to level out the stink bug stance, and some tint would like good! Other than that, stock the Cruiser will conquer about anything you can throw at it! Enjoy!

Very nice...looks clean. Congrats! Other than checking/changing fluids I'd do a lift and sliders to start.

Nice looking rig, congreats! Drop the running boards and crank the torsion bars. You may want to bring it to the Summit in Ouray in July, Slee and quite a few others will be there to visit with about what you.....need.

Congrats on the purchase! Welcome!

Thanks for the kind words and ideas from everyone. Have some good ideas on where to go next. Saw this on the Slee website and think I might take a similar approach. Make it a bit more trail ready and hopefully get it done in time to take the family to Ouray in July.

Any thoughts on what I can expect from a MPG drop with this type of set-up?

^ That appears to only be bumpers, little bit of lift and bigger tires. If you get rid of the running boards you will have more clearance and less possibility of damage not to mention it just looks better. A nice set of step sliders works well in place of the running boards.

MPG drop comes mainly from tire size, if you go up to t 285 you will lose about 1 to 2 mpg.

Oops, looks like Paul posted as I was typing, good to see we came up with the same answer...

I am running Slee front and rear bumpers, a winch, and sliders and have seen no appreciable change in mileage. I am sure I will see a bit when the lift and slightly larger tires go on.

BTW, the truck posted from Slee's site has their 1.5" heavy level lift on it.

That Slee truck looks to be turbocharged. I see an intercooler hiding up front.
