Like me, you probably noticed that the j-hook hold down on the battery box is a weak link on the 80 series. Over time, they get wallowed out and become cracked and oblong. I believe I have come up with a very good solution that is strong, retains the factory look, and best of all is cheap. In total, this project should cost around $2.50 and take 20-30 minutes.

Go to the nearest big box hardware store and find one of these 3/4” metal electrical conduit bulkhead fittings in the wiring isle.

Next, chop off the smooth half with a hacksaw or angle grinder.

Using a sanding drum on a rotary tool, enlargen the wallowed out hole in the battery box where the J-Hook used to fit.

Give your modified fitting a coat of black paint, and install snugly with a pair of pliers.

Run the j-hook from the outside through the fitting.

Can't quite see, did you run that nut back on?

You could also use a 3/4” chase nipple. Would likely be easier too. I used what I had laying in my shop though.
