Well I have a friend who has told me for over a year that she has a cruiser. But I have never seen it nor has she gotten it running. But she called me a couple ow weeks ago needing a guage cluster and I found someone willing to get her one cheap as long as she would take a picture of her holding it in front of the cruiser. It's a 72. She has about 2k in new parts to put on it. It has some rust but is easily salvagable. I'll give her credit. She replaced the camshaft herself. SHe almost has the engine running. All she needs to do is install the mallory distributor and it will run. But nor she nor I know what we are doing and I didn't want to screw it up. SO if somebody with some experience in this wants to step up to the plate and help a Cruiser Chick out. She would be very greatfull. It's a shame for a cruiser to not be running for a whole year.

She Needs Help.

Okay, I suggest we go to her place and get the truck running. When is a good date?

Mallory tips

First I'd ship it to Mallory and have them rebuild it as a magnetic
dizzy. Costs about $100. Comes back looking like new. I've had 2
done this way. It is available for the mechanical dizzys they sale.
Second tip: Seat the dizzy ALL THE WAY DOWN. It can be installed
without a proper seating to the oil pump resulting in low or worse
yet NO oil pressure.
IF you install as a POINT dizzy be sure to lube the cam portion of
the dizzy shaft where the points ride. If this gets dry it will wear down
the thingie that rides the cam quickly and cause point gap to close over time.
Dizzy can be installed 180 degrees out. Be sure #1 is up before the install.
New plug wires would be a good idea too.
A 72 would still use a ballast resistor as well. Mallory recommends you
keep this on.
I like a hotter coil which can be purchased from vendors.

It's a brand new distributor. With resistor already installed. All it needs to be done is it set in place.

I think you set no. one cylinder on Top dead center compression stroke and drop the dist. in. Turn Roter Clockwise and it should end up pointing toward no. 4 cylinder when it bottoms out. I think this is what David is saying but a little more for those of us who need details.....me for instance. Sorry Dave.

Maybe she could do it but it's a lot easier to find TDC with help. I've hit exhaust stroke before because of a lack of help. I hate it when that happens. I'tll crank but runs like a PIG. Sorry Richard!!

Date?

Are you asking Marshall out or her? :flipoff2:

Troll & I get along well but we're not buying curtains! At my age you must realize how flattering it seems of you to suggest any other possibilities. Thank You:flipoff2:

Correct. Either take the valve cover off and watch the valves for determining
#1 is up or remove the # 1 spark plug and CAREFULLY slip a straight skewer
type stick or similar in. When #1 comes up the stick will be pushed up.
DON'T drop the stick into the cylinder. CAREFUL.
It will have to be timed after the install. It's been so long ago.....I
think it's 7 degrees before TDC. Get the "bb" aligned with the pointer.
SEAT IT FULLY. I can't stress this enough.
Point gap is still 18 or so.
Without determining the # 1 is at TDC compression you have a fifty/ fifty chance
of getting it right via guess. ie...the old exhaust stroke piggie thing Alan refers too.
