My excuse for missing a few events this spring - chat

We've finally gotten the attic into a somewhat livable condition. We have a few odds & ends left, but with the girls arriving this Saturday and me heading to Ramble Thursday, we just ran out of time.

Here are a couple of before, during, and after pics.

Good thing is, we now have plenty of room for people to crash during a long wrenching weekend.

Also, was the floor down or did you lay it? If new, where'd you source your lumber?

Wendy and stopped by on Monday on the way back from IA and I can say it looks really good. Chris mentioned there are a few details that need to be finished but otherwise it's done.

We are just leaving the vent - I'd like to paint it the same color as the walls, but Shannon wants it black.

The floor is 8" lap pine which was put in when the house was built in 1926.. We literally washed it with hot water twice, then wiped it down with paint thinner before 3 coats of satin polyurethane. We left the paint splatterings, dings, gouges, etc. from years gone past so that the character matched the rest of the house.

Other than the header and a 6' x 14' cedar closet which would be to your left in the picture, all of the framing was in place from the original construction.

Are you thinking about making the master bedroom the attic and the kids room on the 2nd floor? Just think of the closet space for Shannon. I better stop before she reads this.

We've definitely discussed it, but are concerned about the kids rooms being closer to the doors than ours, especially when they get older.

Having just carried a 27" TV from the basement to the attic I don't think trying to move a keg up that far is really worth the effort. How far can one pipe beer from the keg to the tap?

There's plenty of room for Chef's band along the east wall. If you can handle dancing in a mosh pit, there's room for that too. Just watch out if someone starts passing you towards the chimney.

how many SF of finished space did this add? Did you add all the windows?

Added around 960 SF including closets. The windows are original.

WOW that looks great! I am concerned about one thing though Chris, I dont think you have enough outlets....

You'd be surprised what code requires for outlets - maximum spacing of 12'. I probably have a "couple" of extras.

What you don't notice is there are 5 cable & cat 5e connections spaced around the room with a distribution panel in the big closet.
