Hi all!
Just put new master and slave in, bled the system and BEHOLD - I was able to move ! Finally i drove my rig for the first time - just turned it around in the driveway but never less it is driving.
Next step - new tires - old ones are barely holding air and they are so old I am afraid to put more in them, I think they are still original ones.
If anybody in So.Cal has a set of used tires/wheels let me know, maybe we can work out something :)
I have no lift yet so probably I guess am looking at 33's at the most for now?
Any advice?
Thanks
Robert

awesome, you got her on the road............almost, tall and skinny tires are my vote........:steer:

OK so engine is running, but I got no clutch action and no brakes. I took slave apart, well at least I tried - cylinder inside is not moving at all, even after I treated it with PB Blaster no go! So now I am waiting for new master and slave I just ordered, in the meantime I'm gonna bleed brakes and see if they work otherwise I will have to go wheel by wheel :( ( not big fan on working on non adjustable drum brakes, but they will have to do for now). Next update as soon as parts show up and weather improves.

Lucky thing about living here, you are blocks from Man A Fre and a few miles from Spector Off Road, I built mine from scratch with the help of the guys at both of those places. For less than a hundred bucks you can buy rebuild kits for the clutch slave and master and the brake master. I went for several months thinking that my clutch was worn out till I rebuilt both and everything works great now.

Hope to see you on the road soon.

Search for the Bezel many posts about it, and also in the FAQ section. Just make sure the thick part is on top, I still think factory must not have always installed the correctly, shocked at how many pics are posted with them not correct.

yep... I'm a noob! I just checked mine ...

Its been a while since I was able to update but Christmas and New Year did not leave much time to work on your rig...
Anyways I was able to clean and repaint front bumper and floor on driver side.
Mind you it is a rattle can resto so quality is not the best but at least it is clean.
Here are some pics. IMG_1516.webp

Now I am hunting for wheels and tires.
BTW anybody installed Chevy bucket seats in FJ40? if so let me know - my neighbor has a pair in decent shape for $50 but I am not sure if they fit. As you can see from pics toolbox is gone and PO put some home made brackets secured with L brace that is bending very easily.:bang:
Any ideas where can I get some decent brackets for driver side?
Happy New Year to all!
Robert

Ok guys little help here -just ordered set of 15x8 rockcrawlers series 52 with 3.5 backspacing and after reading some of the posts i am really confused would they fit my 1971 fj40 with 33x10.50x15 tires or will they rub?

Comin along quick. Welcome to the sickness! :D

Did MAF set-up the carb for you?

If you ever have any carb issues I posted a link to a very helpful set-up article for the WEBER, at least it was for me, not on my FJ though. This guy's explanation of symptoms and the corrections needed is excellent. Step-by-step and easy to undertsand.
Probably ignore the jet range recommendations in the article, should be different for your motor.

The Dime, Quarterly - Tuning the Weber DGV for the L-Series 510 motor

Good carb out of the box, really GREAT carb when really dialed in.

Actually it was set up straight from the box, just bolted it on an poured some gas and started right up, i suspect it is running little rich since i have some black smoke coming out especially when cold but otherwise no problems. I run the rig just a little bit down the block since the old tires are virtually coming apart so i can't tell how is running when up to the temp and and above 25mph but i am hoping for the best.

Chances are that any key that will fit your ignition switch fill work, my 72 will start with a quarter.
Stock 71 didn't have a roll bar, not till 74 IIRC.

Thanks Toyo FJ40, I already got ignition cylinder replacement from CCOT for around $35 and also I figured that my roll bar is a smittybuilt or something similar and it was put in by PO and so was the bullbar.
