Hi Fellow Cruiser fans!

Ive been a lurker for a while now and this Forum has so much cool information, I love it. Has helped me a fair bit, being a newbie to Landcruisers and 4WD'ing in General.

Ive always loved cars from a young age, and since having my License have had a love for toyotas (I dont know why). First car being a rare imported EP82 GT Starlet back in 1999, to multiple JZA80 Supras (Dream car in highschool) to MR2's, Altezza , Random runarounds like Coronas, Celicas and Cressidas.

I always loved the look of the Landcuiser 80 and 60 series, but never really had a use for a big 4wd. Once my Supra became more of a Circuit Racer, I decided to sell a Mint MX73 Cressida I had for an 80 series to tow my car to the track. I started off with a very tired 1994 4.5 Petrol 80, with over 500,000kms and was on Gas. I Sold this after a few months because, A. it was a colour I hated (Maroon) and on Gas which has issues.

I trolled carsales, ebay etc hourly (as 80 series are pretty popluar here) when I found a Mint 1 owner 80 in Black which was not a standard colour here. It was a made to order colour and it mateched my 202 Black Supra! I had to have it.

I could not afford the massive prices for a late model Multivalve 80 (People ask for 30K AUD plus for them!) so I had to settle for a Petrol. I still one day want a Diesel and have toyed with a 1HDFTE conversion (from 100 series).

Anways a daily that was bought mainly to tow has turned into another expensive hobby! I have the modding bug and started to fix her up.

My Supra is E-Famously known as "The Gorilla" and competes in things like Time Attack.

Meet Baboon!
A Late 1995 80 Series Petrol GXL Landcruiser

It had 278,000kms

It WAS very clean, and was happy with the purchase.
Got it home and had to re-arrange the garage a little for it to fit (Sits in the garage whole Gorilla gets tuned)
It towers over the wifes little Vitz

So, soon as I got it, I filled up both tanks...$165.
Next morning garage smelt bad of fuel...turns out the Sub Tank has a small pin hole in it and is pissing fuel out!! So I thought Id drive it hard on the sub tank, but than later learnt that you cannot use the sub tank until the main is 3/4 empty! So I thought we have to drain it...to get to the drain plug you have to remove the spare.....well it looks like its never been moved before..and the spare is seized on!! So its staying on the street :(
I still have not fixed this issue.

The first time I took it offroad:

I was meant to race the race car this day but it was wet, so I went to offroading instead...with my cousin...total noobs..
Soon as I got in...I saw a huuugge puddle...didnt check it, so i was contemplating going in...my cousin said to enter it slowly, i said na you gotta gun it through....so i did it...low and behold...no snorkel half way through car konks out!!! Im stuck in the middle.....
Open the door and the water is almost in lol...

Luckily 3 mins later these group of young blokes came to the rescue..

I tried starting the car in the water, but the exhaust was under water so it sucked in a lot of water....once he pulled me out, it was a matter of trying to get it started...eventually did, very gurgly and water was coming out the exhaust like a hose!
A surf pulled me out lol

IMG_0280 by koffeeblack, on Flickr
Eventually it ended up drying all out and we were back on our adventure lol...very sloshy and wet...and surprisingly with the road tyres (Dessert Duelers) it was heaps fun, but didnt get stuck...had to use low range once when i was in a ditch...

Look like this guy never made it out?? lol...when i saw this i turned back haha..it was sloshy as!

So...what i have learnt from that day
carry recovery gear..(I had nothing lol)
Better tyres
Snorkel
CB Radio

Sweet mother of jesus that engine bay is clean...

Thanks Pat80, It WAS clean. I have had this car since Feb 2011, and this is a copy & paste from my local forum

So i went and bought some 33" (305/70/16) mud tyres on 16" Black Sunrasiers. Maxxis Bighorns i found USED on EBAY. Looks tuffer, def more grip on road does not loose any power and fuel economy seems to stay the same...actually if not better! One downside is its noisier

One thing here in Aus, is it gets pretty Hot, so Aircon is essential! Of course Mine didnt work, but it turned out to be a cracked hose. Got this fixed and re-gassed @ $345 later, but she BLOWS cold now :p

Did a quick Beach trip to Boat Harbour. Last time I went was around March 2010. Had access to most of the dunes, now there is nothing, just an access road, and then about 500m of beach driving. Even an awd sedan wont have any issues. First visit for Both baboon and Mojo (Dog) to the beach.

Did a trip to hunter valley. Car was great, but the Tyres are a little noisy, and the on rough roads alot of things rattle/jiggle. The AC was great, but around 5 minutes from our destination mrs complained of some water dripping on her feet on the passenger side. Only happens when the AC is running

I think I may have fixed this issue. Just got under the car, poked a whipper snipper line in the rubber tube under the car that rains the condensation from the AC...hit some dirt and water came gushing out for around 3 mins!

Baboon gets some new rims ...Not much different to the old ones, just newer and less offset. 16 x 8 -13 (Was supposed to be -23 grrr).

Heaviest and Cheapest new rims I have ever owned at $90 each lol. I don't know exactly how heavy, but I lifted one up like Id lift a 20kg plate up at the gym, and this is easily heavier!

Being a Federal Dealer and Sponsored by Federal, it was natural to go Federal MT's 33"

Federal 595-RS in 265/35/18 and 285/30/18
And 33" MT Couragia

Did a trip to Lithgow with a few friends (Blue Mountains) and hit the Wombats. Going down, I had no dramas, till I got to this angle and the engine just stalled. Moments before I had just put it in Low Range...

The car would not start up again on this angle. When I got towed out to flat ground, the car started but was idling very low, asif there was water in the plugs. Soon as I started to drive off, revs went up to about 1400rpm, and then back to normal. It remained fine for the rest of the trip and back home.

Turns out the Hose coming off the throttle body had a crack in it.

Installed an Ebay spec Snorkel. What a c^%t of a job!! Started about 7:30 and finished at 12am

The Template supplied inst 100% so the holes were a little out, but we managed to work it out. We ended up unbolting the front guard to get 2 a couple of bolts that would be impossible to get if we hadn't. Alot of people from what i have read, leave these 2 bolts undone.

The daunting task of drilling a big hole in your front guard! (This is my cuz pictured, use to be a panel beater so he was happy to reminisce back to his panel beating days)

I hated the aluminium front bar, so went out to look for an ARB item
Had a bidding war last night on an ARB Deluxe Bar!! Won for $610! Sux as the OEM Aluminium Bar will sell for nothing...
The Ebay seller was DODGY! Listed it as MINE 80 series, upon recieving it was in s*** condition and all the mounts were chopped off!

Nice truck! Black looks awesome, especially rare over here. Rare to find a dark colour without sunburn too. I got a 3f in mine, also petrol only... Gas is for the BBQ! What kinda ballpark l/100 are you getting?

Looks ace, the black bar makes it. I'm thinking of plastidip on my alloy bulbar...

Cool I just about hit 500 in mine. Do the powerful side steps double as sliders? My old alloy steps are getting wonky and my attempts at straightening them will one day end in failure I'm sure!

Hey I like the pic of my rig as to how an ARb bullbar should look!!! awesome rig.. Coming along just fine!!

I am contemplating plastidipping mine in camo tan, havent jumped the gun on it yet!!

Cheers

Great looking rig, will you get a tire mount and jerry cans eventually?

Yep they act as sliders too, pretty cheap on Ebay for about $400!
