I seem to have a motor oil leak on the 80. It leaves quite a bit of oil on the floor below the radiator/front of motor area. I will try to get the 80 on a lift to figure out what is leaking.
Does anyone have any recomendations on what could be the possible culprits?

Thanks,
Vince

Check the power steering pump. Could be this instead.

well at least you didn't get stranded

Sorry to hear about the leak. When did you notice it? Let us know where the leak is sprouting. Hopefully it is not like Dan's.

Possible sources:

Crank position sensor
Front Crank seal
Oil pump cover
front oil pan arch
Power steering pump (would be PS fluid)
Distributor housing

Mine was an oil rifle plug. That was a LOT of oil all over the place.

Thanks guys. It is motor oil. It looks to be lower than the distributor.

Thanks,

Vince

Good luck Vince, and keep us posted.

Possibly in the crankshaft seal area? Very common with the higher mileage engines. Oh heck, better tear everything down for a complete rebuild...like Beno!

Luckily, most people are not as foolish and stupid as me.....

Aren't you supposed to be in the middle of the desert by now?

Is there room at Rory's for another one?

:grinpimp:

I don't think I need to say this ... but if it's a front crank seal make sure and see Dan. Aftermarket seals suck.

I always see Dan when it comes to the 80. Now if Dan could find a early window vent gasket for my 40's driverside door:doh: .

Ya, funny how the passanger side door is available, but not the drivers. See SOR.

It was the front crank seal.

Jon, thanks for the tip on SOR for the vent window seal.

Thanks,
Vince

I don't think he's that far along. He will stop by tomorrow to pick the seal up.

IT is Fixed!!

It is fixed.:bounce::bounce2: I had a local mechanic with an enclosed shop take care of the repair with me providing the parts. My hats off to Beno and Rory for puting up with the cold weather. I should be ready for the New Years day run as long as I don't have to work.

did the funky electrical stuff get addressed?

Not yet. I think it might be related to my aftermarket alarm. It does not seem to affect the drivability of my truck so I will deal with it at a later date.
