The subject line says it all. My coworker was revving it and flames shot out, I now realize that's not the most ideal thing to have happen.

Could I have burnt a valve, or caused any other issues? Since I recently diagnosed the intake leak im now thinking its not as cool.... lol!

Newly rebuilt engine, looking for someone to console.

The flames went back over a foot, if I blew up a valve it might have been worth it.

It could be caused by a timing/fuel mix ratio issue. If there is unburned fuel being exhausted it can ignite in the hot exhaust causing flames.

If your carb is leaking and fuel fumes are making their way into the leaky exhaust you’re dealing with it might also cause this issue. It’s really hard to say without being there with the engine while it’s running.

As @OSS said it’s not indicative of a broken engine per se. More likely a tuning issue, which you’ve been struggling with for a while it seems.
