Yes, it sure is... And it may even be a Chinese copy, but I couldn't tell from the pix. I emailed the seller but never heard back.

You should just get your carb rebuilt by one of the specialists in the area, when they're done, it's better than a new carb. And btw, new carbs are no longer avail from Toyota.

I am not sure what pic they had in the auction.

Here are pics of the one I have in the box: (I have no idea which one it is for. No distinguishing marks or numbers)

I checked out that list of LC specialists around my state. The nearest one is about an 1 hr 20 min away :bang:

Worth the time to take it to a specialist. That is not a FJ60 carb. Check out this guy in your area. I have heard nothing but good about him. Marks Off Road Home Page
65swb45 is his screen name.

Burbank is approx 2-2:30 hrs away :).

I will find out if here is a place in town here that rebuilds, or maybe a place online I can send it to.

Or maybe get a weber lol

You can send it to mark. And you don't need to remove the valve cover to replace the carb.

So it appears I cant edit my post. In your post you say they need to remove the carb to replace the valve cover gasket. That is also wrong.

That looks like a genuine OEM carb for an early FJ40, long discontinued, so I'm sure it's worth a good bit of change, anyway, even if you can't use it... And you can't use a Weber, either because of our lovely smog laws. You have to have what's already there. Period. Unless you plan to register the rig out of State.

If you have the ability to remove the carb yourself, you'll be way ahead. Mark A. does great work. I'm running carbs he rebuilt on both my 60 and 40. If you need to take it to a shop, you might look in the "mechanics listed by State" for shops close to you.

I'll ring you tomorrow.

don't spend $800 on power steering either. I found a new pump for just under a hundred. I had to use my old reservoir but it works fine. If u follow your fellow cruiserheads advice i bet u could cut your price almost in half!!!

Once thing that is interesting, that I didn't mention before. The previous owner used Rustoleum Bed Liner, and spray painted the WHOLE truck with it. It has what I am calling a 'Sand Camo' look. I don't know...might keep it.

Do you have any more pics of the exterior? My rig needs new paint and yours sounds interesting. I'd like to get a better look at it.

I pulled all the carpet and padding out today, so any pics I take are going to be minus that. Want to wait to wait till I get it back in or before?

After alot of advice here, I decided that the first thing I am going to do after getting the a/c fixed, gasket replaced, etc. Is upgrade the steering tie rods, stabilizers, sway bars, etc.

Spoke to Spike Strip on the phone today he made some very good points as to what should be the first major things to fix, upgrade, and start working on.

Thanks Everyone.

Oh and onto Ebay goes the 40 carb!!

Here is a picture of the bottle of RustOleum that he used for the outside.

Hey, it is a "rich and elegant finish" ...

At least you know touch-up will be easy after those runs thru Anza-Borrego!

Good luck!

:D

Exactly, going to be easy fixes!!

Heard from the dealership today. After the carb rebuild, etc. The engine is running like a "beast". Those were his exact words :)

BUT because of the engine now running right, a whole new leak showed up. There is a sheared bolt that is 'pouring' oil out of it. So they are going to get it out and set it right. They cannot figure out what is the bolt is supposed to do. Maybe held a bracket at one time, etc.

Oh well....till tomorrow I guess. :crybaby:

Hmm, this 'sheared bolt' could end up being the oil galley plug. Do a search and see if it fit's their description of it's location.

Nice! And it even matches the house...

Call them...yup it is that.

He was like "Mitch, we are not idiots, I know what it is and how to fix it. You are not the only this has happened to here. "

ME - "Thomas, I know YOU are not an idiot, but some of your mechanics are....we have been though his before. lol"

"I got it taken care of, trust me! If I screw it up, I have to fix it anyway."

"Ok ok ok"

LOL.....

We have a good relationship. lol

Ok, it sounds like you've got a good service guy -- Don't mean to bang on dealer service, but you can surf through MUD and find plenty of horror stories simply because most of the techs out there were in diapers when these trucks were born. Besides, better to be a bit annoying and ensure it gets done right than smile and have to take 'em to small claims later.

:meh:

And btw, you're lucky they caught that - usual result is that plug pops at 60 mph and before you can stop your motor is toast.

Don't go to a dealer, find yourself a trusted "Cruiserhead" mech. (Check the forum top)

The dealers break out in cold sweat, faint and get a heart attack! Wuz dad, hoo da car?
Thereafter they charge you one arm and two legs for recovery and repairs all with premium Toy parts warehoused for decades.
My 2 cents.

I live in San Francisco and drive up to Sonoma where Mudrak (Gary Kardum), btw., a great Cruiserhead, takes care with understanding to my and "her" needs and my budget.

As for the love affair she has with gaz stations... oh well....
