We lost Max today. The father of two of our boys and the grandfather to two more boys. We adopted him when he was 7 from the Golden Retriever breeder we got his sons and grandsons from. Long story there. He would have been 13 soon.

He had an awesome retirement with us and enjoyed off leash runs with his pack at the Santa Cruz River near us, lots of camping in the mountains or at the lakes, a big pool in the back yard and very loved. Today was a rough day and our pack misses him dearly.

Very sorry. Such a handsome boy.

Just finished digging so this old boy can take a dirt nap tomorrow.

Last hot lap around the local church field, and a splash in the creek. A 5 minute lap took an hour, but he was the happiest he's been in weeks.

When he was young and hale!

Thanks for the adventures and the laughs, and the company!

He was a rescue. Rescued less than 48hrs before he was due to be euthanized.
He was in bad shape when rescued, but he bounced back and had 5 great years with my wife, and then me too.
He would do absolutely anything for my wife . . .

except what he was told to do 😆

He did literally jump in to attack a black bear and run it off when it snuck up on the wife and the neighbors kids at the fire pit once.

Loyal as a dog can be.
He would keep on trooping on for us indefinitely.

Heart breaking to see cancer get the better of him!

He'll be baying and treeing bears all over the back 40 in the sky tomorrow night!

So sorry for y'all. But what a grand life you gave him. Run free, boy.

Just a month after his diagnosis the Big Gray cat has crossed the bar. He showed up at the office back door, mostly feral and very wary. Within a couple years he was coming into the office and napping in a chair across from me, and he became so tame -- all 20 pounds of him -- that after 4 years I took him home. We had him home with us for 5 years, and he was so big and sweet and social . . . We've had cats before him, all rescues, but he touched me the most. My wife always said he was my cat, because I brought him home initially and he always came to greet me when I came home from work, and he loved to sit in my lap and would just purr, purr, purr . . . He leaves behind a lot of friends both human and canine who mourn his passing. Godspeed Big Gray.

It's been more than a month and we are still missing him very much. We've always been primarily dog people, had a couple other cats but none got to me like this one. My wife framed the first photo where he's in a chair in my office. That photo is now in my office just a few feet from that chair . . .
