... any one know the mud flap law in AZ?

The "my rig is correctly configured for my home state where it's registered, I'm only visiting" defense may work? In some states that works, others take the "if you want to drive on our roads it must be correctly configured to the local laws" viewpoint.

28-958.01. Rear fender splash guards

A. A person shall not operate a truck, trailer, semitrailer or bus on a highway unless the vehicle is equipped with rear fender splash guards that comply with the specifications provided in this section.

B. The splash guards:

1. Shall be attached in a manner that prevents the splashing of mud or water on the windshield of other motor vehicles.

2. Shall extend to a length of not more than eight inches from the ground.

3. Shall be wide enough to cover the full tread or treads of the tires being protected.

4. Shall be installed close enough to the tread surface of the tire or wheel to control the side throw of the bulk of the thrown road surface material.

5. May be constructed of a flexible rubberized material.

6. Shall be attached in a manner that, regardless of movement either in the splash guards or the vehicle, the splash guards retain their general parallel relationship to the tread surface of the tire or wheel under all ordinary operating conditions.

C. This section does not apply to:

1. A vehicle commonly known as a pickup truck with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of ten thousand pounds or less, except that this section applies if the pickup truck has been modified from the original bumper height design to raise the center of gravity of the pickup truck.

2. A truck tractor or converter dolly when used in combination with another vehicle.

3. A single, tandem or triple axle trailer with fenders that are wide enough to cover the full tread or treads of the tires being protected and that extend to a length of not more than fourteen inches from the ground.

hmm.. never thought of the height regulation.. I still have the OEM mud guards but they might be little short. I guess that needs to be looked at.

i would have told that cop, " i need mud flaps because of rocks ? Thats almost as stupid as a mudflap ticket." Shouldnt it then be called a rock flap?

A cop can nearly always find enough things wrong with your vehicle to make a minor stop into a major hassle for you. Many states allow for towing/impoundments of vehicles over relatively minor things, or if you simply have a certain number of violations in one ticket (or so I've been told).

Even if they don't tow your vehicle they can make you sit around long enough that you'll miss anything you had planned that day.

But you're probably the type who slaps bumper stickers making fun of cops on his rig, right? :hillbilly:

I have alot of customers come in looking for mud flaps in AZ for this reason. Also been told by many that the laws states "trucks" and does not include SUVs or station wagons.

the description on my title is station wagon, so it's not by legal definition a truck! :flipoff2:

The title for both mine and the :princess: calls it a "Lexus truck."

(Much to the chagrin of my wife who would get upset at me for calling it a truck. "It's not a truck! It's a SUV!")

I think it's funny when people call it a "car".

"No, that tin-can unibody Heep Grand Cherokee you drive is a car. Mine has a *frame*, and is therefore a *truck*."

I don't know what Texas laws are but I know we have ran from 38's to currently 44's with no mud flaps and have never had a single complaint. It is registered and inspected. If they pulled us over for no mud flaps it would get impounded. LOL It has hydro assist, hydro rear steer, double bead locks, no high beams, no horn, no muffler, blows more black smoke than most trains and the bumpers are at least 3 1/2 ft off of the ground. Hell I even see duallys around here all the time with no mudflaps.

D

I would tell him to go pound sand. My 60 when I was there ws a sport utility wagon. It did not have to have flaps even with a spring over, shackle reverse, and 37s. I say take him to court and make a fool out of him.

OK, so who has the hook ups to make TEQ flaps for all of us? A couple of holes drilled into our custom bumpers and some stainless steel hardware and we are good to go.

Yeah what he said. and i need them in under 15 days since thats all the time they give me to get it "fixed"

I got pulled over on my 60 for no mud flaps, then took it with out the mud flaps to CHP, cop on duty said, no reason to install them since my tires did not stick out of the wheel well, and all that from his desk, he had a clear view of the truck from the front office.

Whatever the outcome we all know the flaps get ripped off when off roading, on the lorries I drive we have a small chain hanging from the flaps that allows us to clip the mudflap back up towards the bumper out of the way when tipping ect.

Just a thought......

regards

Dave
