i didn't get any response when i posted this on the Colorado trip thread. i figured it's because nobody is interested, but just in case, i'll make a separate thread for it.

i will be taking the family camping July 21 or 22 through the 26th. i would like to do mt. Blanca, but would need a second vehicle with me for safety. you don't have to stay out there till the 26th. i would escort you out and either move camp myself, or if the trail isn't too bad, go back in. the unknown is really why i want someone along.
it is supposed to be a beautiful area and a fun trail.

any takers?!

If I had some vacation to spare, and if I didn't already have camping plans for the 25-28, and if I had my bumper finished, and.........

no problem. i found some more recent info on the trail and it doesn't look too bad (a medium level trail, like a 4 on the CM scale). i would still prefer to have another vehicle with me though. the second obstacle has some exposure to it.

Shawn, sorry too, we are going up to Ouray for the FJC get-together from the 16th thru the 20th, so I took vacation the week before you were planning on going. Any word about the October Moab trip? Just wondering if that was still a go. Have a great time in Colorado - I heard there is still a LOT of snow. Be safe.

Shawn -

It sounds like fun, but we've got too much going on this month. I hope the trip works out for you. I would like to check out that area another time.

It would be a beautiful camp at the lake. the trail isn't that bad, but the potential is there for rollovers or other damage on each of the jaws obstacles. I'd keep looking for someone to join you. Wonder if Mark Hoverson is watching? I'd love to go but my troopy is due on the 23rd so we are going to LA to pick it up and take kids to disney.

I'm watching. I'd like to go but work is getting reved up and I'm not sure what my schedule looks like for the rest of the month.
Some folks I work with are thinking about going, I'm not sure exactly when though. I may try and tag along with them. We usually try and go closer to Labor Day.
I thought I read where the club from Colorado Springs is going up next month.

Have you tried the Colorado Cruiser club in Colo.Spgs.

i posted on their mud forum this morning. just waiting on answers. it sounds like most of the snow is melted off. they had someone up there last month.

Ryan and Brandon are headed up their this week.

dang, it seems i'm missing everyone. they are going just before or just after when i got vacation.

The trail was great!!! :bounce::bounce2:

Not too bad this season, although I don't recommend going up alone. Jaws 1 shouldn't be too bad for short wheelbase vehicles, but 35's are a MUST unless you take the super-tippy-lean-you-over-towards-the-canyon-butthole-puckering line to the outside. Jaws 2 is ok if you stick to the inside, but remember thats where some folks died a few years back. Jaws 2.5 and 3 aren't too bad at all.

We ran up Friday night in the dark, down and back up Saturday due to a broken down J**P that was with us and in need of a custom made power steering hose, and back down Sunday morning. Plenty of folks up there, and the lake, as always, was worth the drive.

If you go, be careful and have fun!

Ryan, how cold was it in the evening/night? did you need heavier jackets? thanks.

Got down in to the low 40's/high 30's at night. We missed the rain, but I'd be it would be much colder with some moisture in the air. I had a heavy Carhartt jacket on and was comfortable.
